Result of Service
Under the overall direction of the Director, Trade, Investment and Innovation Division and Chief, Trade Policy and Facilitation Section and in consultation with the staff responsible overseeing the project, the consultant is required to deliver the following outputs: Ultimate result of service a. Support preparation of publications related to digital trade regulations b. Support data verification to ensure accuracy of regulatory databases c. Support preparation of country briefs d. Support training and workshops: Assist in the preparation of training and presentation materials as required. e. Support other research and secretariat tasks as required f. Prepare five national legal research publications on digital trade regulations. Deliverables: inputs for the research may be delivered in forms of word documents, excel tables, or ppt slides. g. Support the human-in-loop process for the automation of regulatory data collection. Deliverables: inputs to be integrated into the workflow to review and validate the critical data points, flag errors. The inputs may be delivered in forms of word documents, excel tables, or ppt slides. h. Prepare two regional or subregional reports on digital trade integration Deliverables: inputs to be integrated into the workflow to review and validate the critical data points, flag errors. Duties and Responsibilities
Purpose: ESCAP is currently implementing a project titled "Enhancing Regional and Global Value Chain Participation of Central Asian Countries to Support Sustainable Development in the Digital Era," which is funded by the Russian Federation. The primary objective of this project is to assist policymakers in selected countries of Central Asia in preparing for and capitalizing on new opportunities and trends in international value chains following the COVID-19 pandemic. The project specifically focuses on the potential for digitally enabled trade in goods and services. Objective: The primary objective of this assignment is to assist target countries to have access to information in support of their policy development and enhanced knowledge of policymakers in the target countries to promote regional cooperation, integration into international value chains and a digital economy that is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The assignment involves supporting digital trade regulatory research and data collections in pilot countries.
Qualifications/special skills
Master's degree or higher in Economics, International Trade, or related fields in laws. A minimum of 3 months experience in economic and regulatory research related to digital trade and trade policies. Familiarity with the Regional Digital Trade Integration database is preferred.
Languages
Good English communication skills are required.
