Contract

This is a Consultancy contract. More about Consultancy contracts.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, Access to Water

How can you make a difference?

Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

The purpose of the consultancy is to support the SWA Communications Team in writing key publications, as well as supplying professional English editing/proof-reading.

Background and Rationale

Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) is a global partnership of over 300 national governments, donors, civil society organizations, the private sector, and other development partners working together to increase political will and strengthen resource allocations for water supply and sanitation. Strengthening resource allocations will require improved mobilization and better targeting of resources by both donors and national governments. The goal of SWA is sanitation and water for all.

UNICEF hosts part of the Secretariat of SWA. The communications of SWA are managed and coordinated by the communications team (CT), composed of a Communications Specialist and a Digital Communications Officer, both based in the SWA Geneva office. The CT also works with a wider network of suppliers, from designers to copywriters, from video producers to translators. More information on SWA’s website.

To support the Communications team in its efforts to produce high-quality materials, the Communications Team is looking for an English Writer and Editor, that would be responsible for writing several publications, as well as editing/proof-reading documents written be other SWA staff.

Consultant’s tasks and deliverables

The Writer and Editor is asked to:

  • Write and coordinate the production of the Annual Report for 2022 in line with SWA’s Strategy 2020-2030. This includes compiling SWA staff inputs and other materials and draft, liaise and conduct consultations (by phone, skype, or email, as required) with key SWA partners and staff as required to gather relevant information, to complete the Report, prepare first draft, subsequent drafts and final version, make recommendations around design and lay-out. Size will be similar to 2021 Report.
  • Write and coordinate the production of the Finance Ministers’ Meeting Report, based on reports from rapporteurs and official sources (SWA stories, press release, preparatory process guidance note, etc.). Prepare first draft, subsequent drafts and final version, make recommendations around design and lay-out.
  • Write 3 additional stories for the Handbook for Ministers of Finance Ministers, similar in size (180-300 words) and content to existing one. This includes working with the Secretariat’s Regional Coordinators and Finance Advisor on agreeing on approach.
  • Edit and proofread 5 publications SWA will publish throughout 2023: o Celebrating 15 years of SWA booklet (around 6 pages) o 2 Human Rights Manual booklets (around 10 pages each) o Donor report (around 10 pages).
  • Perform any other editing and proofreading as needed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
