Overview

Assist in implementing UN communications strategies in Iran.

You have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Familiarity with the UN mandate and its work in Iran.
  • Knowledge of strategic communications in the specific Iranian context.
  • Experience in provision of high-level communications policy advice in complex and sensitive political environments.
  • Experience in public information, sociology, media relations, international relations, public administration, strategic communications, business administration or related area is required.
  • Experience in managing social media tools including planning, monitoring, reporting on and analysing social media campaigns is desirable.
  • Fluency in Persian (Farsi) and English is required.

Result of Service

Like UNIC staff, the incumbent will work under the UNIC Director’s guidance in the implementation of the UN Global as well as the UNCT/UNCG Iran communications strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) belong to the Information Centres Services (ICS), Campaigns and Country Operations (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. They are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of, and support the aims and activities of, the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. The Communications Assistant is under the direct supervision of the National Information Officer and the overall supervision of the Director of UNIC Tehran. UNIC Chairs UN Communications Group (UNCG) and the UNCG leads the joint strategic communications and advocacy efforts to support the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team (UNCT) to achieve tangible results in line with the UN Iran development and humanitarian mandate. The UNCG consists of focal points from UN entities in Iran and it meets regularly to coordinate the implementation of joint communications activities and campaigns, within the framework of the annual action plan. The annual plan is based on the UN Iran communications strategy. The UNCG regularly reports to the UNCT and its activities are co-funded by UNCT. UNIC Director is the chair, while UNIC serves as the UNCG secretariat. Within delegated authority, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties: 1. Providing assistance in the production and delivery of information communications products and services. 2. Researching a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compile and present information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences. 3. Assisting with the monitoring of national, international and social media to highlight developments relevant to the work of UN in the I.R. of Iran. 4. Contribute to maintaining a bilingual iran.un.org website and UN Iran social media. Develop, produce, edit or translate stories, videos, audios, and visuals. 5. Copywriting (online & offline), editing, translating and proofreading of communication products (brochure, booklet, newsletters, videos, etc.) for offline and online platforms. 6. Assist with monitoring feedback and reactions on the UN digital platforms, including social media accounts and website; analysing the trends of social media participation and proposing relevant adjustments to the communications strategies. Supporting UN Communications Group and UN Country Team communication campaigns and other activities. 7. Assisting with coordination of outreach activities with the UN and external partners, including media and universities. 8. Providing administrative and communications support to various offline and online events, organized by UNIC and UNCG, including, but not limited to: UN Day campaign, Model UN Conferences, various workshops and outreach briefings, etc. 9. Assisting with the preparation of reports and presentations on various topics of relevance. 10. Assisting in the preparation of financial documents and expenditures, including budget submissions, procurement, purchase orders, and payments to vendors. 11. Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills
