Under the supervision of the Communication Specialist within the Communication Advocacy and Partnership Unit and working in close collaboration with all sections within the Sri Lanka Country Office, the consultant will be responsible for supporting the communication and advocacy function as well as the PFP function through the outlined activities:

Activities and tasks:

  • Provide support to reporting on UNICEF COVID19 RCCE (Risk Communication and Community Engagement) emergency response including the compilation and editing of inputs for Sitreps (Situation Reports) and periodic updates for reporting back to donors.
  • Co-ordinate content creation for UNICEF parenting site: Co-ordinate the editorial process for the UNICEF Better Parenting site by engaging with programme section and writers in identifying topics of interest for parents for editorial calendar; co-ordinate the development of articles in English language (3 articles per month) including managing external writers and co-ordinating technical support and technical clearance from programme sections; co-ordinate and monitor translation of articles to local languages for timely publication of articles in EST (English, Sinhala, Tamil); monitor progress on site improvements; and provide monthly updates and as required.
  • Provide PFP support to the unit including:
  1. Provide support to the editing/ compilation of donor reports including key information/ data collection for existing corporate partners.
  2. Support corporate partner engagement by developing profiles of 12 private sector companies out of 24 companies identified in line with UNICEF’s criteria for new business engagement. This includes sourcing of company information through desk research to develop two reports per month (one per company) covering company background, leadership, related business priorities, and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) priorities.
  3. Provide editorial support for the work of programme sections by editing of stories (approximately 2-3 per month) for donor reports and online use.

Work relationships:

Under the supervision of the Communication Chief and Communication Officer External Relations within the Communication Advocacy and Partnership Unit and working in close collaboration with all sections within the Sri Lanka Country Office, the consultant will be responsible for supporting the Communication Advocacy and Fundraising function as well as the PFP function and work closely with relevant colleagues.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  1. Education: Academic qualifications and required level of education:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
  1. Years of experience:
  • At least 5 years’ experience of project management with evidence of experience in each of the deliverables outlined in the Terms of Reference
  • Experience of working with relevant organisation (UN, NGOs) is an asset but not a prerequisite.
  1. Competencies:
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability project manage complex campaigns with multiple stakeholders – specifically communication and advocacy campaigns
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to positively engage with diverse organisations and individuals.
  • High level of initiative and ability to undertake complex tasks while proactively seeking relevant input, cooperation, and guidance from key constituents
  • Knowledge of UNICEF, the UN and Children Rights Issues, including the UNCRC (UN Convention on the Rights of the Child) is welcome
  • Strong coordination, negotiation, and synthesis skills, and ability to navigate challenges in completing tasks and deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Strong writing skills.
  1. Languages required:
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required, along with fluency in either Sinhala (written and oral), or Tamil (written and oral).

Duration: 11 months (full time)

Expected start date: 01 September 2021

Duty station: Colombo

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
