Result of Service

• Campaign content, including visuals, to enhance and promote the Blue Heart Campaign against trafficking in persons, as well as UNODC’s efforts to combat corruption and crimes that affect the environment is developed. • Campaign content regularly on global UNODC social media channels according to a social media schedule is developed. • Campaign inquiries and stakeholder relationships are maintained. • Media relationships in the areas of trafficking in persons, corruption and crimes that affect the environment are established and maintained. • Regular monitoring and analytics reports on campaign progress are provided. All tasks must be accomplished by 28 February 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

This Individual Contractor opening is located in the Advocacy Section (AS), Public Affairs Branch (PAB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer. The UNODC Advocacy Section (AS) is responsible for all headquarters-driven communications and outreach, and leads the Office’s external communications efforts to raise awareness of drugs and crime. AS provides strategic advice and services in media outreach, website content development, event management, corporate design, campaigns, celebrity advocacy, partnership opportunities and more, working closely with teams in Vienna and Field Offices to strengthen the UNODC brand. AS uses traditional and new media tools to raise the profile of the Office and promote its activities worldwide. UNODC works on several key areas in tackling drugs and crime to carry out the communications work around the Blue Heart Campaign against trafficking in persons and UNODC’s work to combat corruption and crimes that affect the environment, AS is seeking the services of a Contractor to assist with several outputs within these specific areas. This covers, among other activities: a) drafting and rolling out of communication campaigns for the Blue Heart, International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) and UNODC’s work to combat corruption and crimes that affect the environment b) development and dissemination of public information materials in support of the campaigns.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, public relations, languages, or social sciences is required. A first level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. At least one year of experience in communications or public relations is required. Excellent verbal and written communications skills and strong drafting ability is required. Knowledge of social media including X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram is required. In addition, knowledge of the social media analytics tool Meltwater as well as the graphic design tools Canva is desirable. Good interpersonal skills and high degree of independent judgment and initiative are desirable. Experience in coordinating or supporting international communications campaign is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable.
