How can you make a difference?

The Communication Consultant (Content Production) will assist in content and asset production, knowledge management, and content planning. The role will assist in supporting the development, review and edit content for UNICEF Thailand (Thai and English) – including content for communicating impact of UNICEF’s work and raising awareness of children’s issues, as well as content to support specific programme and advocacy objectives as well as fundraising.

The consultant will support the development and review of direct mailings for supporters/donors, content for events and campaigns, and; coordinating with consultants such as writers, photographers, videographers and editors hired by UNICEF Thailand to collect and supply a wide variety of communication/programme/fundraising content, including briefing them on assignments, and ensuring that work is delivered by deadline; quality assurance

of the work delivered by the contractors, updating production work in content calendar/planner; facilitating production trips; providing ideas and inputs in content development; gathering content from UNICEF websites/ intranet to support campaigns, sourcing photos when requested; writing stories; and providing support for content development in time of emergencies.

The role will also support archiving assets including photos, videos in a systematic repository, making them accessible and easier to search for.

Work Assignment:

Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Communication Associate, the consultant’s main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Support the development, review and editing of communication content in support of UNICEF Thailand’s programmes for children, to strengthen the public’s awareness of child rights, and UNICEF’s work with partners
  • Support the development of, review and edit content for fundraising including direct mailings, events, campaigns, in-person fundraising
  • Support to UNICEF Thailand’s publication needs by liaising with graphic designers as necessary
  • Coordinate with consultants (e.g., writers, photographers, videographers, editors) briefing them on assignments and ensuring that work is delivered by deadline
  • Work with programme colleagues in getting information about situation of children, UNICEF projects and interventions, and digest the information to make it easy for public to understand to develop contents for fundraising, communication, programmes and public advocacy
  • Assist in collecting and drafting human interest stories, including conducting interviews and collecting programme information, and if possible, accompanying high quality photos
  • Update production work in content calendar/planner
  • Liaise with the digital team to ensure the assets are utilized effectively for digital platforms
  • Facilitate the planning and logistics for production trips
  • Provide ideas and inputs in content development
  • Gather content from reliable sources such as UNICEF websites/intranet to support campaigns, and source photos when requested and by taking initiative to identify gap areas in existing contents according to UNICEF Thailand’s programme and advocacy priorities
  • Provide support for timely and quick content development in time of emergencies

Work Schedule****: 1 June 2022 – 16 May 2023 (11.5 months) with possibility of extension depending on the office needs and funding availability.

End Product(s):

  • Contents in various formats developed and available for dissemination in support of programme, advocacy, brand and fundraising needs (human interest stories, photos, videos, newsletters for donor updates, and contents for campaigns and events as necessary)
  • Work assigned in a timely manner and with clear direction to contractors including writers, photographers, videographers, and editors, and assignment completed by deadline
  • Information about situation of children, UNICEF projects and interventions collected from programme teams and re-written/re-packaged as requested for external communication purposes
  • Asset production needs regularly updated in content calendar/planner in coordination with communication/programme/fundraising teams
  • Production trips arranged and facilitated for asset collection by contractors
  • Conduct field trips to collect human interest stories and cover UNICEF’s activities
  • Ideas and inputs provided in content planning during meetings/brainstorming sessions
  • Content supporting campaigns gathered from reliable sources, and photos are sourced when requested
  • Human interest stories drafted, interviews and other information collected when assigned
  • Support for content development provided in time of emergencies by deadline
  • UNICEF Thailand’s photography and video asset online database updated in a timely manner

Duration of Contract: 1 June 2022 – 16 May 2023 (11.5 months)

Working Location: Flexible working arrangement, with partial presence on a weekly basis in the office as needed to ensure strong working relationship and coordination with all colleagues. Meetings with UNICEF staff and external partners both virtually and in-person (COVID-19 situation permitting) are required.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, arts, or a related field, are preferable
  • Minimum of 3-year progressive experience in journalism, PR, communication, or other related field
  • Fluency in written and verbal English and Thai is essential
  • Ability to digest difficult content and make it easy to understand
  • Strong writing skills in English and Thai, with skills and experience in producing high quality video content is a plus.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with experience in consensus building and in motivating cross-functional teams to meet ambitious project goals and timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships
  • Flexibility to travel to within Thailand, and internationally if required
