In this regard environmental crimes are a threat to the environment and frequently involve other forms of serious criminality such as money laundering, corruption, human trafficking, tax and customs fraud, labor exploitation, environmental and public health and safety laws. Organized criminal networks are moving illegally harvested wildlife as well as illegal timber, using a variety of smuggling techniques, often by means of existing infrastructures and well-developed routes used for the trafficking of drugs, people, weapons, counterfeit goods and other forms of contraband.
