In line with UNICEF BiH Communication strategy and following the global advocacy priorities and under close supervision of UNICEF Communication Officer, the consultant is expected to produce communication content aiming at promoting of and contributing to the achievement of results for children, by increasing UNICEF’s presence in media and public space, increase visibility, strengthen voice for children, add value to donor reporting, partnerships with media and business sector and increase engagement of target and general audiences.

How can you make a difference?

The purpose of the assignment is to provide technical support to the Communication and Programme team in producing relevant photo and written documentation of the implementation of activities, results for children and human interest stories.

• The consultant is expected to produce high quality photos, documenting UNICEF’s action and features in line with UNICEF Visibility and branding guidelines. The photos are to be accompanied with adequate captions, essays and/or reportages, written in accordance with UNICEF’s standards and guidelines and following the best interest of the child.

• The consultant will also record a series of interviews with relevant stakeholders, partners, and donors, and adapt the content for various communication channels.

• The consultant will produce series of feature/human interest stories with a child in a focus, with photos and captions, followed by adaptation for social media

• The Consultant will produce photo and written materials to document the intervention over the defined time period.

All the materials and content produced by the Consultant will be adaptable for social media.

All the content produced by the Consultant will be under UNICEF’s copyright.

TASKS OVERVIEW:

  • Minimum 10 photo-reportages produced over the course of 2023
  • Each reportage to be equipped with at least 10 quality photos, renamed to reflect the theme and date
  • Each reportage to be adapted for social media (copy to be prepared)

  • Minimum 4 thematic interviews to be recorded over the period, equipped with at least 3 quality photos and adapted for social media

  • Minimum 10 human interest stories produced over the period, equipped with 10 quality photos and adapted for social media.

  • Minimum 2 series of documented interventions produced, equipped with photos, quotes, essays, and key intervention data.

Estimated Consultancy fee must include the travel, DSA and all other relevant consultancy costs

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in journalism or media school certificate
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in journalism
  • Excellent knowledge of the media situation in BiH
  • Previous experience in public child rights related reporting and communication
  • Professional networks and contacts with media outlets and journalists
  • Professional networks and contacts with key public sectors professionals
  • Proficiency in web content management
  • Excellent written and spoken BHS language skills
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Possession of own photo equipment, relevant software and hardware
  • Capability of self-managed travel and logistic arrangements

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
