UNICEF in Turkmenistan started its new country program in 2021 and has numerous partner requirements in addition to requests from national partners. There is a considerable demand for sections to write reports, press releases, concept notes, presentations, proposals, and other high-quality thoroughly edited documents in the Turkmen language. While technical specialists across sections continue to hold primary responsibility and accountability for drafting these documents; before they may be submitted to national partners, dissemination and publication clearance they are required to undergo a rigorous round of review, including fact-checking and quality assurance of the content and completion of the report/proposal/concept note against its purpose/objectives as well as formatting for consistency in writing style according to UNICEF’s style guide and requirements of literary Turkmen language. There is a need for editor support to the sections in the areas of substantive editing, fact-checking, and writing support for a number of reports, proposals, concept notes, and press documents in the Turkmen language.

How can you make a difference?

The purpose of this consultancy is to carry out substantive editing, fact-checking, and writing support, for diverse products developed by UNICEF in Turkmenistan. To achieve this purpose, UNICEF is soliciting the services of editors/writers with experience in report writing and proposal development as well as in editing and fact-checking in the Turkmen language.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in Linguistics, Literature, Journalism, Translation, and/or Social Sciences or related technical field
  • Work experience in international development, some of which should be in a developing countries context
  • Demonstrated experience in producing documents, proposals, and reports for resource partners, including UN agency
  • Experience working in the UN system or UN organization is an asset
  • Fluency in Turkmen is required. Working knowledge of English and Russian is an asset.

Remarks:

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and advance to the next stage of the selection process.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
