Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, is the United Nations agency for Human Settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. As the United Nations focal point on human settlements, UN-Habitat will lead advocacy efforts to raise awareness of sustainable urbanization issues; provide evidence-based policy advice; build capacities; develop tools, norms and standards based on best practices; work on demonstration projects and provide assistance to national Governments, local authorities and other public institutions responsible for urban issues.

The Donor Relations and Strategic Resource Partnerships unit, which reports to the Head of the External Relations and Partnerships Branch is responsible for coordinating UN-Habitat's strategic and operational work on resource mobilization. This includes support for a harmonized decentralized fund-raising model, providing tools to help manage and report on non-earmarked income and earmarked contributions, undertaking and supporting donor consultations as well as other activities related to strengthening relations with donors and enhancing predictable funding for UN-Habitat's work on sustainable urbanization.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff, Office of the Executive Director, the individual contractor will perform the following duties:

I. RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Monitoring new core and earmarked income and providing income projections for the organization based on the past contributions, pipeline projects, and information from ongoing negotiations with donors.

2. Support in preparing materials for bilateral and joint donor consultations.

3. Support in the preparation of monthly data on donor relations Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

4. Monitor incoming correspondence and task allocations to the unit and ensure that it is responded to on time and that tasks are delegated to the relevant staff for follow up.

5. Preparation of financial reports such as monthly updates to Member States and background documents for internal and external meetings.

II. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this request is to hire an Individual Contractor to work with the Donor Relations and Resource Partnerships Management unit on the general coordination of the office work, ensure correspondence and actions of the unit – including correspondence with the donors is acted upon in a timely manner, timely production of internal and external income reports, and spearhead the income management tasks including income projections.

Qualifications/special skills High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training in Actuarial Science, Finance or Social Sciences is an advantage.

A minimum of 2 years of office experience in finance is required. Experience in income, financial management, accounting, data analysis is an added advantage. Experience in donor relations related functions is an added advantage. Proficiency in use of MS Excel for data manipulation is an added advantage.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
