Duties and Responsibilities

This internship position is located in the Internal Audit Division (IAD), Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) in New York. The Audit Office undertakes assignments in the areas of finance, administration and operations. The intern works as a member of an audit team and usually reports to an Auditor. The Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) is the internal oversight body of the United Nations (UN) and assists the Secretary-General in fulfilling his oversight responsibilities in respect of the resources and staff of the Organization through the provision of audit, investigation, inspection and evaluation services. The internship is available immediately for three months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Full-time interns work five days per week (35 hours), and part-time interns work a minimum of 20 hour per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Auditor, and working closely with the Audit team, the intern will be expected to: The intern will assist in data collection, analysis, and other assigned tasks. The intern will have the opportunity to gain exposure to the UN Secretariat’s work in audit. Depending on the competencies and interests of the intern, the assignments will include: • Prepares working papers for review by the auditor in charge • Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting • Assisting in other ad-hoc activities including reviews of working papers, as instructed.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship through the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be: - enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or - enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or - Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one- year period of graduation. (b) Be computer literate in standard software applications, preferably including Microsoft Excel and Power BI; (c) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of its Charter; and (d) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. (e) Successful candidates should be registered for or have completed studies in business administration, finance, accounting, statistics, data science or related field. Experience in analysis of complete sets of data to identify anomalies and trends is desirable. Audit experience is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this internship, fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
