Nature of Role: This is a six-month, fixed term role (Preferred: beginning of October 2024 to end of April 2025)

The Impact Technical Advisor supports VisionFund microfinance institutions, Global Centre Teams, and Senior Managers to understand the impact of VF’s work on the lives of clients and their households. As a technical expert, this role helps to strengthen the body of evidence of impact and to interpret the data and evidence for a deeper understanding of impact throughout the VisionFund network. This role also strengthens VisionFund’s communications about impact with internal and external supporters with clear data visualisation and report narrative, contextualising the evidence to make VisionFund’s work relevant to various audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Work with and support MFI staff to collect, store, analyse, and use impact-related data

  • Good working relationships with MFI staff who have responsibility for impact data, which facilitate shared understanding of MFIs’ challenges related to impact data and to promote working in partnership to find creative solutions
  • Operational solutions are put in place to overcome problems with data collection and storage within the MFI
  • MFI staff have access to coaching from the Impact Technical Advisor to improve their data analysis skills
  • MFI staff have access to coaching from the Impact Technical Advisor to develop and improve impact-related reports
  • MFIs have access to best practices from the VFI network related to impact data and client service
  • A global Community of Practice is in place for MFI staff to share best practices and build capacity
  • MFI staff have access to information and can develop understanding of the relevance of impact to VF Strategy, to Our Promise, and to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and to WV FO CSIPs.
  • MFI field staff develop their understanding of the relevance of impact, which creates stronger staff engagement

Analyse MFI impact data to create evidence of impact and engaging narrative that can be used for marketing and communication purposes

  • VFI GC has a regular source of impact-related “content” for WV Impact Portal and VFI website
  • GC regional teams receive regular impact performance reports that include recommendations for change to increase MFIs’ impact
  • Research and analysis of industry-related impact data and knowledge of developments in economic development sector is available for improving
  • relevance of all impact reports

Advise MFI and GC senior leaders as well as WV colleagues on all matters related to impact

  • MFI and GC leaders are fully informed and understand the evidence of impact that is required for individual MFIs and for the network as a whole
  • MFI and GC leaders understand how evidence of impact is developed and allocate the resources needed to build the evidence
  • Local, regional, and global plans are in place to build a body of evidence of impact and use that evidence to maximise impact and raise the profile of VisionFund.
  • World Vision has a clear understanding of the evidence demonstrating VisionFund's impact and has access to reports that assist in WV's communications internally and externally.

Develop and manage projects related to impact in specific MFIs, in regions, and globally

  • Projects to create, improve, and communicate evidence of VisionFund’s impact are well managed and achieve the desired aims.
  • VisionFund has an impact database that facilitates the production of evidence of impact, which relevant GC and MFI staff are able to access and to use to create impact reports.
  • VisionFund is able to demonstrate to all stakeholders its progress against strategic impact goals, thus strengthening the reputation of VisionFund within the Partnership and with external supporters.

Investigate and understand developments in the financial inclusion sector so that VisionFund's communications about its achievements are relevant and timely

  • Partners and GC colleagues have a dedicated resource to assist with obtaining information from MFIs or about VFI impact globally, including information needed for WV or specific donor reports
  • External consultants have regular point of contact for projects related to evaluating impact
  • By working with other VFI GC Teams, evidence, learning and impact findings and organisational learning of the programmes and operations (especially best practices and lessons learned within VFI) are appropriately documented and disseminated at the different levels within the network and externally.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree In Statistics, International Development, Research, or related field
  • Masters' Degree in related field and Project Management certification would be an added advantage
  • Extensive experience of managing and interpreting data (over 7 years' experience)
  • Extensive experience of managing global projects using project management tools
  • Demonstrable expertise in data visualisation Detailed understanding of operating models of microfinance institutions
  • Ability to provide credible advice to senior leaders
  • Ability to negotiate for resources, deadlines, etc., with senior leaders
  • Ability to lead and influence senior leaders in specific areas of expertise
  • Ability to navigate through obstacles when project partners do not deliver
  • Experience of delivering training to groups and one-on-one coaching
  • Demonstrable skill at writing in English
  • Demonstrable skill at leading presentations as a subject-matter expert to internal and external audiences
  • Demonstrable skill at producing high quality reports and presentations for donors and partners

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

  • Travel 20% of the time
  • Language: English fluent - Spanish or French - desirable
