Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global authority on the environment, promoting the implementation of sustainable development and serving as a key advocate for environmental action. Through global monitoring and consensus-building, UNEP brings critical environmental issues to the attention of decision-makers. The International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is UNEP’s flagship initiative to reduce methane emissions—one of the fastest ways to slow climate change. IMEO delivers open, actionable data to help governments and companies cut emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. Launched at COP29, the Eye on Methane data platform brings together satellite data (via the Methane Alert and Response System), industry-reported data (OGMP 2.0), scientific studies, and national inventories. The platform focuses on key audiences—governments, companies, civil society, and media—offering a geospatial interface and key statistics to drive transparency and accountability. Upcoming developments include dedicated tools for private sector planning and government mitigation monitoring, expanded sector coverage, new metrics, and more. The Eye on Methane data platform team is seeking a skilled writer and editor who can collaborate across teams to develop and refine content that is web-optimized, audience-focused, and delivered on the above.
