IFC’s Climate Business Department is seeking two interns as part of our Global Internship Program (GIP). The Global Internship Program (GIP) offers highly motivated individuals an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of IFC and the broader World Bank Group and become part of the largest private sector development institution in the world. The program encourages individuals to bring new perspectives and innovative ideas to IFC’s work, while improving skills in a diverse and highly stimulating environment. Moreover, the Global Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and network with international professionals dedicated to ending extreme poverty and boosting prosperity in the developing world.
Duties and Accountabilities:
Interns will be assigned to a sector where they will create a full suite of materials:
• Methane reduction technologies; • Energy storage; • Renewable energy island grids; • Green buildings and industrial parks; and • Climate resilience in real estate.
With these sectors, the tasks include:
• Support desktop research and create presentation material pertaining to methane reduction technologies, energy storage, renewable energy island grids, and green buildings & industrial parks. • Conduct market analysis and competitive positioning of methane reduction technology in the waste, wastewater, and livestock sectors. • Conduct global market sizing and opportunity identification for thermal energy storage systems. • Research how climate resilience can be translated to lower insurance premiums and higher asset value in the real estate sectors. • In addition to the above core sectors, interns will be asked to support the production of case studies, strategies, and research for other sectors of focus for climate at IFC, such as cooling, biodiversity, transition finance, electric vehicles, and similar, as well as inputs to the overall climate finance strategy for IFC. • Other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
• Candidates must be currently enrolled in an MBA program or an equivalent program focused on business. • Minimum of two years of work experience in engineering, corporate strategy, management consulting, investment banking, or venture capital. Background in insurance is a plus. • Interest in climate technologies and ability to quickly understand and “translate” between technical and business perspectives. • Numbers-oriented person, able to draw conclusions and recommendations from data sets. Comfort with documenting assumptions in cases data is missing. • Strong PowerPoint skills, ability to summarize complex materials into easily-understood business concepts with a consistent story line that will inspire clients to action. • A sense of curiosity with initiative, creative thinking, and a readiness to look for ways to add value. • Fluency in English.
Location:
• The interns will work in IFC Headquarters in Washington, DC.
