The overarching strategic goal of UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally through the use of innovative technology-enabled solutions.

The Business Intelligence team, as part of UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) works with all divisions, regional and country offices to provide and manage UNICEF’s Performance Management and Business Intelligence (BI) systems.

How can you make a difference?

The ICT Specialist (Data Warehouse) will design, develop, document, test, implement and maintain UNICEF's Data Warehouse system. Development and customization for all UNICEF's BI applications/landscapes (SAP, BW, CRM, UNICEF Data Warehouse, data from UNICEF internal non-ERP systems). This includes building and maintenance of extraction, transformation, load (ETL), and other related scripts to meet the storage needs for reporting for UNICEF in all locations, as defined in the Business Information / Corporate Reporting Programme.

Design and configure the report delivery environment to ensure high availability with response times falling within agreed limits. Security, availability, and performance must operate within the IT portal technology standards. Assure that reporting solutions and related infrastructure are available to meet end-user needs with regards to accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.

Working with ICTD's Platforms and Service Delivery, Solution Engineering, and Operations teams to plan, configure and implement the Business Intelligence hardware and software environment to provide a secure, robust, and well-tuned solution.

This position reports to the ICT Manager – Business Intelligence and supervises two ICT Officers at the P-2 level.

Key responsibilities:

Using Data Warehousing design tools and techniques and working with the Business Information systems analysts, report programmers, and database developers to translate business rules and metadata into design, implementation, and update of logical and physical structures (tables, indexes, stored procedures, etc.) and procedures in the Data Warehouse.

Continuously monitor and tune the Data Warehousing and reporting infrastructure and related info cubes and data stores to ensure that refresh rates and report response times fall within agreed limits and that data is available to users as per the agreed service level.

In coordination with systems analysts and programmers, design, document, test, implement and maintain the extract, transform, and load procedures (ETL) that will populate the Data Warehouse and related info cubes and data stores with data from different UNICEF systems and supplementary sources. Assure that ETL is done in the optimal form to minimize the time and resources required to populate and update the Data Warehouse.

Work with assistant programmers and short-term staff to continuously research new IT tools and techniques to optimize UNICEF's Data Warehouse and reporting environment. Keep up to date with relevant changes in technology. Provide technological expertise in Data Warehousing and Reporting to other IT colleagues in UNICEF.

Coordinate with ICT and short-term staff in work planning and other supervisory and management functions. Perform and assume other tasks, duties, and responsibilities that may be required, as defined by the Supervisor.

Academic Degrees:

• An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in in in Information Systems Management, Information Management, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.

Required Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in Data Warehousing and ETL development is required.

  Required Technical Skills and Experience:

• Training in Data Warehouse technologies, Oracle Databases, Microsoft Database technologies, or SAP Business Warehouse Systems is required

• Extensive knowledge of data modeling, data structures and business intelligence tools techniques and technologies are required
• Practical experience integrating with SAP systems is required
• Working knowledge of business process and data analysis and design methodologies, tools and techniques required.

• Familiarity with DevOps practices, agile methodology and Scrum framework, version control systems, such as Git continuous integration system and automated testing practices is required.

• Working knowledge of SAP products like BTP, Datasphere is desired

• Working knowledge of Oracle Autonomous Databases is desired

Language Requirements:

• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
