The New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management.

Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP) It provides Services to partners' programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

The ICT Senior Assistant – IT Infrastructure will carry out his/her tasks within the Platform Support Unit in the Field Technology Service (FTS) at the UN ICT Facility, Valencia (UNICTFV). Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager and direct supervision Information Systems Officer, the incumbent works under the guidance of the Chief Infrastructure and Operations Section in the UNGSC Valencia, Spain, provides specific expertise in the implementation and operation of the UN Hybrid Cloud strategy for the back end infrastructure including: load balancing support, Citrix and virtualization support, processing cloud services and tools to monitor performance, availability and capacity of the hybrid environment.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent works under the guidance of the Chief Infrastructure and Operations Section in the UNGSC and will report to Information Systems Officer or his/her designate and is responsible for the following duties:

  • Citrix and Virtualization Support
  • IT Infrastructure and access layer support
  • Technical Support
  • Knowledge Management

    Citrix and Virtualization Support:- Provide support in maintaining Citrix Virtual Apps platform that support several mission critical applications.

  • Provide support in maintaining Citrix Application Delivery Controllers platform.
  • Automate tasks using Ansible and PowerShell for Linux and Windows systems.
  • Automate infrastructure deployments using Infrastructure as a Code solutions and framework using Terraform.

IT infrastructure and access layer support - Maintain Load balancing Deployment that support several mission critical applications. - Manage Load balancing deployment in private and public cloud. - Manage Certificates and secure access to published applications.

Technical Support - Contribute to develop scripts for operation process automation based on systems engineering and configuration management frameworks. - Assist on the deployment of several projects, including hands-on configuration of complex components. - Contribute to solve complex problems related to IT infrastructure. - Participate in on-call rotation that includes afternoon working hour shifts.

Knowledge Management: - Continually explore, evaluate and recommend advanced technologies to provide higher quality service, scalability and modern architectural standards.

Impact of Results

The result of work of the ICT Senior Assistant – IT Infrastructure impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Department as well as the performance of the services implemented in the DPO and Peace Keeping and Special Political Missions and headquarters. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Experience: Required experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of information technology and/or telecommunications and systems, preferably in an international environment.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with Citrix technologies and their use in delivering secure, highly available, mission critical enterprise-class solutions
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with load balancing technologies

Desired experience: The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply

  • Experience supporting multi location enterprise grade data centre.
  • Experience in certificates management

Language: - Fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required. - Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an asset.
