The New York Service Cluster (NYSC) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management

The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP) It provides Services to partners' programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

UNOPS has signed an agreement with the Office of Information Technologies (OICT) and the Department of Operational Support (DOS) responsible for all ICT operations across the Secretariat, including field operations. Its role is to develop, manage, monitor and optimize the infrastructure on which the Organization’s global technology solutions, systems and applications are delivered. The Technology Training Development Team (TTDT) is the bridge between the application, infrastructure and innovation technology development teams and the end users in the missions.

This is a UNOPS position and the incumbent will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent will operationally work as part of Technology Training Development Unit (TTDU) and will report to assigned UNOPS personnel. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  1. Online Training Content Creation
  2. Project Management
  3. Content Design and Development
  4. Other Duties as required

Online Training Content Creation

  • Supports in instructional module design based on existing content and interviews with the subject matter expert(s);
  • Contributes in design and development of online learning modules for review and validation;
  • Integrates the learning modules into the Technology Training Portal eLearning platforms.

    Project Management

  • In accordance with PRINCE2 methodology, participates in an initial kick-off meeting to meet with the project team, discusses the project, validates critical objectives, agrees on learning objectives, and develops a project plan to guide the project through completion;

  • Makes continuous updates to the team on progress of assignment;
  • Collaborates with the team to manage content reviews;
  • Supports in analysis and effort estimation to create an e Learning including all the different stages required.

Content Design and Development

  • Works with the project team to understand existing content and to support in instructional design of the content into storyboards to meet the agreed learning objectives;
  • Coordinates meetings with the eLearning content developers team to review the different delivered versions of the eLearning units;
  • Using the approved course outline, contributes to the creation of new e-learning content or update previous contents, for virtual training in line with given instructional content material;
  • Helps in redacting learning objectives and create assessments that are aligned to the predefined learning objectives based in instructional design principles;
  • Creates briefs, storyboards and audio scripts aligned with the predefined learning objectives;
  • Performs all needed Q&A that assure the aimed level of quality of the final output/product.

Other Duties as required - Drafts reports and prepares communications addressed to a diverse group of recipients within the UN system; - Maintains accurate data/records of training courses and participants; - Prepares reports on training statistics and other relevant information. - Performs other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

IV. Impact of Results

The result of work of the ICT Senior Assistant (Capacity Building Senior Assistant) impacts directly on delivery of services and training that satisfy the requirements of the Department of Operational Support as well as the performance of these services implemented in the field missions and headquarters. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • Completion of High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Communication Technology or other related areas may substitute for some of the required number of years of experience.
  • Prince 2 (Foundation or Practitioner) is highly desirable.

Experience: Required: - A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working with information and communication technology projects, including projects overseeing large centralized and globally distributed systems is required. - At least 4 years of progressive experience in e-learning course development design is required.

Desirable: ****(The following experiences are optional. Candidates who do not have them are welcome to apply)****

  • Experience in the use of at least one e-learning authoring tool/software such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, etc., is desirable.
  • Experience with online learning management systems is desirable.

Language Requirements: - For this job opening, fluency in English (write, read, speak) is required. - Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
