The overarching strategic goal of UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally through innovative technology-enabled solutions.

The Business Intelligence team, as part of UNICEF’s Information and Communication Technology Division (ICTD) works with all divisions, regional and country offices to provide and manage UNICEF’s Performance Management and Business Intelligence (BI) systems.

How can you make a difference?

Under the direction of the ICT Specialist, the ICT Officer (Business Intelligence Developer/Analyst) will support the design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of UNICEF’s Performance Management and Business Intelligence (BI) systems, including custom development and customization for all of UNICEF’s BI applications and landscapes.

This role will be identifying and analyzing industry trends in Business Intelligence and building and maintaining BI applications for reporting for all UNICEF locations, as defined in the Business Information / Corporate Reporting Programme. The incumbent will ensure that reporting solutions and related infrastructure are available to meet end-user needs with accuracy, timeliness and consistency. This role will support the development of a user-friendly interface that is accommodating to the needs of users in field offices as well as in headquarter locations.

The ICT Officer reports to the ICT Specialist at the P-3 level.

Key responsibilities:

Based on the organization’s goals and priorities, support the creation of business intelligence solutions and data tools to inform data-driven business decisions. • Analyze functional business requirements and participate in the development of business cases in support of process changes and BI projects. • Collaborate with other UNICEF ICT teams to develop and implement technology solutions in alignment with IT product roadmaps, which achieve the ICT strategy while also reducing overall technology platform operating costs. • Research and recommend new and emerging technologies and frameworks for business intelligence, analytics, and reporting.

Assist in the deployment, administration, maintenance and support of data platforms, tools and solutions for UNICEF offices and divisions globally. • Assist in design, development and implementation of data visualizations, reports, dashboards, and business intelligence tools. • Assist in the development and administration of business intelligence platforms and applications. • Analyze and test new releases/versions of software. • Collaborate with business and technical teams in data collection and analysis. • Create, maintain and publish technical guidelines and standards related to business intelligence solutions.

Provide 3rd level technical support for global business intelligence solutions, data tools and platforms released as part of the Business Intelligence portfolio. • Provide 3rd-tier technical support on data and business intelligence tools and services. • Liaise with the Global Shared Services Centre and other ICTD units as required for support, problem coordination, and resolution. • Troubleshoot reported data loads or reconciliation inconsistencies in conjunction with the sites for data models and/or reports. • Track, monitor, and analyze performance and production issues, and implement enhancements.

Support project-related administrative tasks, field communications, coordination, capacity building, and knowledge management. • When required, conduct field office information gathering exercises and surveys in the context of data and analytics projects. • Assist in the coordination and delivery of webinars, training workshops and clinics to build local end-user capacity and to introduce innovative solutions and services.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Academic Degrees: • A first university degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) in computer science, software engineering, information technology management or related field is required. • Training in relevant disciplines with substantial course work in Business Intelligence or data warehouse is highly desirable.

Required Experience: • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience building and supporting BI/Data warehousing solutions with highly visual and responsive dashboards and self-service BI tools is required. • Prior experience working with commercial and emerging reporting tools and technologies (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, etc.) is required. • Strong data visualization skills and working knowledge of data analysis and data mining are required. • Understanding of relational databases, data modeling, data structures and architecture, ETL development and business intelligence tools techniques and technology is required • Working knowledge of DevOps practices is required. • Familiarity with Agile methodology and Scrum framework, version control systems, such as Git continuous integration system and automated testing practices is required.

Desirable Experience: • Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle is strongly desired. • Prior experience working with Microsoft BI Stack (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, Power BI) is strongly desired. • Prior experience in API development is desired. • Prior experience successfully implementing and supporting analytics platforms and/or in IT consulting/staff roles is desired. • Knowledge of Big Data analytics and Machine Learning is desired.

Language Requirements: • Fluency in English is required. • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
