UNOPS ICT unit is responsible for architecting, designing, delivering, and managing all UNOPS ICT infrastructure and business applications. The unit includes Enterprise Architects, Business Analysts, Solutions Designers and Developers from all around the world who are based primarily in Denmark and Thailand.

Background Information - Job-specific

Reporting to the ICT Infrastructure Team Lead, the ICT Infrastructure Specialist will work collaboratively with the ICT Infrastructure team on supporting our field colleagues in implementing the UNOPS Office in a Box concept. This requires a solid understanding of network, network troubleshooting, bandwidth management, systems administration, monitoring and performance tuning in addition to project management and stakeholder management skills.

Functional Responsibilities

The ICT Infrastructure Specialist will be required to undertake the following functional responsibilities:

Manage the Office In a Box (OIB) concept

  • Manage the OiB project, rolling out the concept to regional and field offices in a planned manner and in collaboration with the offices
  • Advise field offices on the design of field office infrastructure
  • Remote deploy OIBs to new regional offices, coordinating with the local ICT Focal Points.
  • Remote upgrade existing OIB installations in coordination with the local ICT Focal Points
  • Ensure monitoring and alerting is in place and respond to issues if and when they arise
  • Keep the OIBs secure and up-to-date (Routers, Switches, APs)
  • Assist in optimizing the OIB deployment procedure and management functionality by expanding the use of automation
  • Support the local ICT Focal points with troubleshooting
  • Advise on and implement optimizations to the concept

System Administration and Monitoring

  • Provide second level support by responding to tickets within the defined SLA
  • Troubleshoot issues assistance to ICT developers
  • Advise the Global Helpdesk and System support teams on technical issues
  • Monitor the ICT landscape and respond to alerts generated by monitoring systems
  • Proactively identify potential issues and escalate/solve them as needed
  • Apply security patches to the ICT landscape
  • Provide timely response to operational incidents

Tasks within the ICTs administrative and operational framework

  • Create and maintain process guidelines and guides for ICT colleagues in the team and in the field offices including suggesting process improvements where possible
  • Coordinate license management
  • Coordinate and assist on asset management
  • Monitor cloud cost on a continuous basis and alert supervisor when needed
  • Review business continuity plans, ensure they are up to date

Knowledge management

  • Ensure full documentation of systems, configuration and procedures to enhance knowledge-sharing/transfer within the team and throughout the ICT practice using established documentation repositories.
  • Follow and evaluate emerging technologies, staying up-to-date with trends and the cyber security threat landscape, attend courses and seminars, share knowledge and experience with other ICT specialists. Evaluate systems and platforms, research best practices and contribute to ICT Service Team design solutions with a special focus on Google Cloud Platform
  • Participate in meetings and exchange information and expertise on applications and tools with ICT staff from other UN agencies.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education Master’s Degree, preferably in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Technology Management, Mathematics or other relevant discipline is required.

A Bachelor’s degree in combination with additional two years of experience may be accepted in lieu of master’s degree.

Secondary education in combination with additional six years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree

Technical certificate equivalent to CCNA or Network+ with focus on IT networking

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with enterprise IT systems

  • Minimum 3 years of working experience with:

    Network Infrastructure

    • Switches
    • Routers
    • Access Points
    • UTMs
    • Firewalls
  • Mature understanding of the following is a requirement

    • QoS
    • Netflow
    • Wireshark or equivalent for packet inspection and troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing/coordinating projects and stakeholders will be a distinct asset

  • Knowledge of the following is highly desired:

    • Automation scripting using bash, python, expekt
    • Linux operating environments
    • Windows operating environments
  • Knowledge on managing automation scripting using version control systems such as GIT is a distinct advantage

Language

Full working knowledge of English is essential.

Knowledge of another official UNOPS language is an asset
