Overview

  • Proven experience in the field of ICT/telecommunications in the Pacific Countries
  • Strong skills in writing and reviewing technical reports
  • Good command of spoken and written English.

Result of Service

Under the overall supervision of the Director of IDD and the direct supervision of the Chief of IDS, the individual contractor will deliver the following tasks: a) Support the Committee on follow-activities in Fiji to facilitate information sharing and also increasing capacity and awareness of local Fiji stakeholders to the Pacific IXP, through attending monthly virtual Committee meetings and provide substantive inputs, follow-up on Committee requests for Fiji including dialogue with local stakeholders, and when necessary, promote the Pacific IXP to seek additional members from Fiji stakeholders to the Committee. b) Draft an action plan (10 pages maximum), outlining potential key stakeholders in Fiji and contact persons for future partnership, assess the Committee’s future operation modality, opportunities, and challenges in Fiji, estimate financial/costing considerations for the Committee’s future operation in Fiji, and outline key recommendations for the Committee on next steps in Fiji, following consultations with key local stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

In support of implementing ESCAP resolution 79/10 titled, “Promoting digital cooperation and inclusion through the Action Plan for Implementing the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway Initiative, 2022–2026,” the ESCAP secretariat is mandated to provide technical assistance, policy analysis and capacity development and promote knowledge-sharing among members and associate members, in particular least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing States, on digital connectivity and transformation through regional cooperation, as appropriate. In response, the ESCAP secretariat plans to hire an individual contractor to support the Committee on follow-activities in Fiji to facilitate information sharing and also increasing awareness of local Fiji stakeholders to the Pacific IXP.

Qualifications/special skills

Degree related to ICT or related field. Proven experience in the field of ICT/telecommunications in the Pacific Countries Strong skills in writing and reviewing technical reports

Languages

Good command of spoken and written English.
