UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations helping a wide range of partners in delivering peace, security, humanitarian and development projects across the world.

UNOPS Sri Lanka implements tailored socio-economic development projects that benefit vulnerable people and supports the Government national capacities. UNOPS has been working across Sri Lanka managing education, public health, roads, water and sanitation, fisheries, agriculture and solid waste infrastructure projects. UNOPS also provides expertise in procurement, fund management and human resources management services.

As part of its advisory services, UNOPS will work closely with members of the Sri Lankan civil society to provide them with skills, tools and training to support their work in assisting the people and communities of Sri Lanka. As part of this initiative to strengthen technical skills and capacities, the selected candidate will work closely with the other team members in the project.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, who reports to the Country Manager, and technical guidance of the ICT colleagues in the country and in HQ, the ICT Associate is responsible for efficient and effective ICT management and support for the UNOPS Sri Lanka Peacebuilding programme.

This position is based in Colombo with extensive travel to field and project locations.

Functional Responsibilities

Programme Database platform development, Data analysis and development

  • Analyze and translate project requirements and develop CSO online platform.
  • Lead the analysis of the requirements and development of visualizations and management solutions.
  • Design and develop reports and visualization products.
  • Coordinate the implementation processes to bring data from various data sources into data repositories.

    Project Data support and maintenance

  • Ensure the performance of data sanity checks and unit testing of reports, coordinate the participation in end-user testing for buy fixing and issues resolution
  • Act as main focal point for communication with CSO online platform and other operation teams to ensure recommendations on performance, security and user interface are provided
  • Oversee Work Orders assessment and ensure fixes are applied by troubleshooting and resolving reporting and BI incidents and problems;
  • Monitor and apply performance improvements to platform processes;
  • Analyze and investigate project issues and apply fixes as / when needed

    Analysis and documentation

  • Manage the documentation and activities performed.
  • .Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education - High school diploma or equivalent is required - A University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) or technical diploma in Applied Mathematics, Electronics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems /Technology, Engineering or related field is an asset and may substitute for some of the required years of experience.

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of ICT, Electronics, Information Systems, or other related fields is required.
  • A minimum three (3) years of experience with SQL Data Warehouse or SAP HANA or SAP BW or SAP ERP or ABAP development.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with data integration, cleansing, ETL related areas.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Microsoft SQL or any other database tool.

Desirable:

  • Experience in solving analytical problems using quantitative techniques.
  • Experience in developing online platforms.
  • Experience in managing databases.
  • Experience in Programming.
  • Experience in Process Chains and Data Services management.
  • Ability to take high level, loosely-defined business problems and identify precise, quantitative solutions.

Language

  • Fluency in English (write, read, speak) is required.
  • Knowledge of another local language is desirable.
