Background Information - BSSC

The UNOPS Bangkok Shared Service Centre (BSSC) is a Shared Services Centre (SSC) unit established for the purpose of providing internal, global, cost-effective transactional services which enhance the operational capacity of UNOPS and standardize systems and procedures. The BSSC, among other functions, carries out high-quality transactional services within the area of personnel contract administration and payroll.

Background Information - Job-specific

The UNOPS Bangkok Support Office is a support service centre established for the purpose of providing effective admin, protocol and ITC support services to UNOPS offices located in the UN ESCAP building in Bangkok, and overall support to all UNOPS personnel in Thailand.

Working in the UNOPS Bangkok Support Office and under the guidance and supervision of the ICT Senior Associate, the ICT Associate provides support within ICT services, ensuring high quality of work, accurate, timely and proper solution to UNOPS personnel in Thailand and other remote offices when needed.

Functional Responsibilities

Summary of Key Functions:

  1. Support to implementation and maintenance of ICT system

  5. Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing

    1. Support to implementation and maintenance of ICT system;

  • Provide support for the implementation and maintenance of ICT systems BSSC office.
  • Perform routine technical tasks including hardware maintenance, repairs, and software installations/upgrades.
  • Support the installation of commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades.
  • Creation and customization of software packages to be rolled out to workstation.
  • Creation and customization of Operating system image.
  • Manage office equipment such as copiers, printers, and video conference units.
  • Facilitate the provision of computers for users, including new setups and replacements.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for hardware and software maintenance, ensuring consistency and efficiency in ICT support services.
  • Collaborate with ICT colleagues to support the delivery of ICT services and solutions.

2. User support, Network/s administration;

  • Provide first-line support to users, addressing inquiries and resolving technical issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide day-to-day user support to the BSSC office.
  • Assist the team lead to provide remote support to AR/THOH and fields office in the Asia region when required.
  • Maintenance and administration of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.
  • Provision new user accounts in Active Directory for email, internet access, and other systems.
  • Provide support on Google Workspace applications, such as Gmail, Calendar, Drive and other related tools.
  • Configure, provide support and maintenance of the video conferencing system to ensure seamless communication.
  • Maintenance of network and internet connectivity to ensure stable operation, availability of bandwidth, and reliable connection to the internet and HQ based systems.
  • Monitor network performance and bandwidth utilization, identifying and resolving issues to maintain optimal network efficiency and reliability.
  • Support to users in backing up and restoring their files, as well as in virus detection, removal and prevention.
  • Coordinate with ICT Section of UNESCAP to provide telephone system.

3. Provides administrative support;

  • Maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of software and hardware.
  • Generate ICT asset and inventory reports as necessary to track the status and availability of ICT resources.
  • Manage and Administrator of Document Management System (Laserfiche Servers).
  • Coordinate with Laserfiche support on troubleshooting, upgrades and maintenance.
  • Implement inventory management systems and tools to track the lifecycle of ICT assets.

4. Development and maintenance of in-house applications;

  • Develop and maintain Inventory application for internal use.
  • Assists the team in developing documentation and training materials for in-house applications to facilitate onboarding of new users, support staff and ensuring effective utilization.

5. Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing;

  • Participation and assistance in the organization of training personnel on ICT issues.
  • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice.
  • Support the team in delivering ICT training to new personnel, equipping them with essential skills for using organizational systems and resources effectively.

  • Support the team in conducting regular training sessions for end-users on new technologies, software applications, and best practices to enhance their IT literacy and proficiency.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: - Completion of Secondary education is required. - First University Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is desirable, and may substitute some of required years of relevant experience.

Experience: - At least 6 years of progressively responsible, working experience in the field of information technology and/or telecommunications and systems, preferably in an international environment, is required. - Good working knowledge of hardware/software, Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Server 2012/2016, Windows 11 and Microsoft Office 365, Google Cloud, Google Looker Studio, Google Apps Script, AppSheet is required. - Proficiency in computers and office software packages MS Office, Google Workspace and experience in handling web-based management systems is required. - Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues on desktops, laptops, printers, and other ICT equipment is desirable. - Experience with Cisco Meraki networking solutions, including configuration, deployment, and management of Meraki switches, routers, and access points is desirable. - Experience in UN system organizations is desirable. - Knowledge of UN policies, procedures and practices is highly desirable.

Language Requirements:- Full knowledge of English is required. - Knowledge of another official UNOPS language is an asset.
