The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners' peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors and United Nations organisations. Background Information, IT Project services for Partners (ITP):

ITP provides IT support services to Hosted Entities as well as other UNOPS offices.The IT project support services range from website development and redevelopment, website migration and maintenance, database development and maintenance, security and risk assessment etc. It also includes drafting IT equipment specifications, terms of references, technical participation for procurement, supporting the supervision and certification of outputs delivered etc.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the ICT Senior Analyst - ICT Project Manager, the ICT Analyst - Solution Design (UX/UI Designer) will be responsible for:

  1. User Research & Analysis - Conduct user research to understand clients’ target audiences, their needs, and behaviors.

- Create user personas, journey maps, and empathy maps to inform design decisions. - Analyze user feedback and data to refine designs and improve usability.

  1. UX Design - Create wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to effectively communicate design ideas.

- Design intuitive navigation and interaction patterns for responsive web applications. - Conduct usability testing to validate design concepts and iterate based on findings.

  1. UI Design - Create high-fidelity mockups and design assets using tools like Figma or Adobe XD. Experience in either is highly desired.

- Ensure consistency across the application by following or contributing to the client’s design systems. - Design visually appealing and accessible interfaces, adhering to modern web standards.

  1. Accessibility Design - Ensure all designs comply with accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1.

- Collaborate with developers to implement accessible components and features. - Conduct accessibility audits and testing to identify and resolve barriers for users with disabilities. - Advocate for inclusive design practices and educate team members on accessibility best practices.

  1. Collaboration & Communication - Work closely with developers to ensure the feasibility of designs and proper implementation.

- Collaborate with client focal points to align designs with business goals and user needs. - Present design concepts to stakeholders and incorporate feedback effectively. - Contributes to the tracking and reporting times and efforts invested on the assigned tasks. Knowledge on Atlassian products is highly desirable (Jira, Confluence). - Performs other Web design related duties as required.

The incumbent will be expected to:

  • Ensure timely delivery of project designs,
  • Work on the design of enterprise web applications
  • Support the ICT Project Manager in establishing solid working relationships with the clients and key stakeholders.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

a. Education - A first level university degree (Bachelor degree or equivalent) in information technology, communications, computer science, information systems, statistics or related fields is required - An advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in a related field is desirable and may substitute some years of experience.

b. Experience - Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in UX/UI design for web applications is required. - Proficiency in Figma, Adobe XD, or similar design tools is required - Knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to collaborate effectively with developers is desirable. - Strong understanding of UX principles, UI design trends, and accessibility standards is desirable. - Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices (e.g., WCAG, ARIA) is desirable - Familiarity with agile or iterative development methodologies is desirable.

c. Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of other UN languages such as French or Spanish is highly desirable.

Contract type, level and duration

Contract type: Local Individual Contractor Agreement (LICA) Contract level: LICA 8 / ICS-8 (Retainer) Contract duration: One year (12 months) initially, with a maximum of 100 working days, renewable subject to need basis, satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
