Overview

Support the Front Office team and IASC Secretariat in administrative and substantive tasks.

You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (2nd university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • Field of study related to political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences or related fields.
  • Good knowledge of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will support the Front Office team and the IASC Secretariat in both administrative and substantive aspects of the Secretariat’s work, under the supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer / Special Assistant to the Chief of IASC Secretariat. The tasks will include, but are not limited to: • Supporting internal tasking processes and compiling inputs for reports, updates, and other official documents; • Coordinating with sections and colleagues across the Branch to address queries and help troubleshoot emerging issues; • Assisting in the organization and scheduling of internal and external meetings, events, and activities; • Contributing to the Branch’s knowledge management initiatives, including drafting and editing content; • Conducting research and producing humanitarian analysis, background notes, training materials, and talking points as required; • Attending meetings and preparing summaries or readouts for internal distribution; • Designing, implementing, and analyzing surveys and polls to inform Branch-wide initiatives.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). The University degree must be in the area of political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences or in a related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable, Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
