Remote - Humanitarian Learning & Knowledge Management Intern

Summer 2024

World Vision Internships provide a three-month opportunity for exceptional students and recent graduates ready to explore a career in the international relief and development sector. BEFORE APPLYING, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • Able to commit to at least 24 hours per week for the entire internship period: 20 May – 16 August.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must have a valid US Social Security Number.
  • Be physically located in one of the following states where WVI is registered as an employer: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
  • Current student or recent graduate from an undergraduate or graduate programme (within 2 years).
  • Adhere to World Vision International’s Christian Statement of Faith.
  • Willingness to use own electronic devices for internship purposes, and disposition to let WVI install endpoint security software on those devices.

DETAILS

  • Stipend: All US-based interns are paid a monthly stipend of $800
  • Hours: Full-time and part-time opportunities are available (24-40 hours/week)
  • Internship Location: Remote within the US (see eligible states above).
  • Appropriate Fields of Study/Majors: Knowledge Management, Library Science, Data Analytics, Qualitative Research, Behavioral Science, Humanitarian Studies, or related fields.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

When disasters happen, we want children to have access to clean water, food, and shelter. The Disaster Management (DM) team is committed to protecting the vulnerable from physical injury, disease, disruption of education, separation of families, trafficking, and exploitation. Our approach moves across the continuum from early warning, disaster risk reduction, readiness, emergency response, recovery, and finally transition.

The goal of the Learning & Knowledge Management unit is to lead DM in applying learning to continually improve our performance in humanitarian programming. It does so by supporting systems, structures, and environments that capture, store, and share knowledge, and apply such learning to practice and organisational change.

The Opportunity

As a Humanitarian Learning & Knowledge Management Intern, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Co-create content with subject matter experts on relevant projects.
  • Improve the accessibility and usability of humanitarian resources.
  • Strengthen the comprehensiveness and cohesiveness of humanitarian learning processes.
  • Upskill in the niche disciplines of humanitarian learning and knowledge management.

The intern’s responsibilities will include:

Knowledge Management

  • Co-develop library taxonomy & draft for all resources.
  • Support Subject Matter Experts to:

    • Refine library taxonomy.
    • Conduct an audit of resources by function/theme.
    • Update relevant content to our intranet (WV Central).

Humanitarian learning

  • Update real-time evaluation guidelines.
  • Conduct and transcribe some key informant interviews.
  • Support the development of a humanitarian learning trend report.
  • Translate resources into French, Arabic, or Portuguese, as feasible.

Other responsibilities

  • Develop internal newsletters
  • Coordinate internal webinars

Essential qualities for this role:

  • You have good communication skills, and the ability to work independently to achieve the desired outcome.
  • You are responsible, responsive, and enthusiastic.
  • You are a self-starter, detail-oriented, multi-tasker, agile, and curious.

  • You have a strong acumen for digital collaboration tools (e.g. SharePoint, MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).

  • You have qualitative research experience.

  • You are fluent in French, Arabic, and/or Portuguese.
