  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in humanitarian analysis, context analysis, information management, emergency preparedness, humanitarian reporting, or related humanitarian programming.
  • Strong understanding of the Somalia humanitarian, political, security, and displacement context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of Somali is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; knowledge of data visualization tools is desirable.

Job Advert- Somalia Country Office

Title: Humanitarian Analyst - open to Somali nationals only

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Humanitarian Context Analyst is a key member of the Humanitarian team within the Somalia Country Office, responsible for collecting information, monitoring humanitarian developments, analyzing data, and producing timely contextual and analytical reports to support evidence-based decision-making by the Senior Leadership Team and programme teams.

The role holder will provide regular analysis on humanitarian trends, conflict dynamics, displacement, climate risks, food security, access constraints, public health risks, and operational developments across Somalia to support emergency preparedness, response planning, risk management, and strategic decision-making.

The Humanitarian Context Analyst will work closely with the Humanitarian team, Area Offices, Technical Specialists, EVIDENCE/LEARNING, Programme teams, and the Context Analysis and Foresight Unit (CAFU), a global technical network coordinated through Save the Children’s Crisis Anticipation and Response structures.

The role holder will support the development of humanitarian situation reports, early warning updates, risk analysis, emergency assessments, briefing notes, and other analytical products required to strengthen organizational preparedness and response capacity. The position will also contribute technical analysis and contextual information to humanitarian planning, proposal development, advocacy, and response prioritization processes led by relevant senior leadership.

In addition, the role holder will support collaboration and information sharing with humanitarian stakeholders, peer agencies, and relevant government institutions, including providing technical support to the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) where appropriate to strengthen national humanitarian analysis and preparedness capacities.

The role holder is expected to maintain strong analytical standards, ensure timely dissemination of quality information products, and contribute to strengthening Save the Children’s humanitarian preparedness and response capacity in Somalia. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder may be required to work outside normal working hours and adapt responsibilities to support emergency response priorities.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in humanitarian analysis, context analysis, information management, emergency preparedness, humanitarian reporting, or related humanitarian programming.
  • Proven experience in collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing humanitarian, political, security, climate, and operational information into clear analytical products for senior management decision-making.
  • Experience in developing humanitarian situation reports, alerts, analytical briefs, early warning products, Emergency Preparedness Plans (EPPs), and contingency planning documents.
  • Experience supporting humanitarian response planning, preparedness, and operational decision-making in complex humanitarian contexts.
  • Strong understanding of the Somalia humanitarian, political, security, and displacement context.
  • Experience working with INGOs, government institutions, humanitarian coordination platforms, or donor-funded programmes is desirable.
  • Experience in information management, data visualization, and humanitarian reporting systems is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex information and provide practical recommendations.
  • Excellent report writing, information synthesis, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of humanitarian principles, emergency preparedness, and context analysis methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze trends, risks, and operational developments and translate them into actionable information for decision-making.
  • Strong coordination, planning, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; knowledge of data visualization tools is desirable.
