Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the UN Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. The inter-agency Protection Standby Capacity Project (ProCap) and Gender Standby Capacity Project (GenCap) envision a world in which all people affected by humanitarian crises are protected and humanitarian action prioritizes gender equality. To help ensure the centrality of protection and gender in humanitarian action, the projects work to strengthen leadership, programmes and localization strategies by providing direct support to field operations through the deployment of Senior Advisers who work closely with Resident and Humanitarian Coordinators, Humanitarian Country Teams and other stakeholders, including national partners. ProCap and GenCap Senior Advisers are highly skilled and experienced, representing an independent, inter-agency resource for collective response, helping ensure the centrality of protection and gender equality across the operation. The intern will support the ProCap GenCap team on project support and Knowledge Management, partnerships and public information. She/he will report to the Programme Management Officer under the overall supervision of the team leader. Task will include: - Support preparation of Project-wide meetings including donor briefings, Project Advisory Groups and seminars with Advisors. Specific activities could include organizing venues and preparing meeting packs, invitations and follow-ups, and documenting meeting outcomes. - Copy-edit and standardize formatting of public products, as needed. - Ensure and regularly update all documents in the shared folder and OCHA Hub. - Support the organization of events – including the Projects’ involvement in the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW), in coordination with other teams (including PSEA and others) through the preparation of handouts, pamphlets, management of booths and engaging with stakeholders on the Projects. - Research private sector actors to inform mapping of potential private sector partners to the Projects with a possible geographic focus on the private sector partners in the Gulf and other financial hubs. - Compile a list of private sector organizations to be prioritized for engagement and partnership, with focus on the Gulf but not limited to it. Key deliverable will be mapping and drafting of 1 page information sheets for the top global private sector organizations. - Updating the GenCap and ProCap Project Website and associated links and documents. - Organising project outputs / documents for other events and public sharing.
