Human Rights Officer
Contract

Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.
Description of task
The incumbent works under the direct supervision of Chief of Human Rights Office (HRO). The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of events relating to human rights and political issues in general and in particular as they affect the operational area for which the staff member is responsible.
- Compile, and draft daily, monthly and quarterly situation reports to UNMIK HQ and OHCHR as required.
- Undertake field trips and meet with local human rights actors and report to HRO when required;
- Attend round table discussions, seminars and workshops on behalf of HRO on subjects pertaining to the work of HRO.
- Take responsibility for assigned programmatic activities and budget-related issues, and contribute to RBB and other Mission wide HRO reporting.
- Gather, select and analyze information contained in communications, publications and various types of files received from different components of UNMIK as well as external sources relevant to the work of HRO.
- Keep abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assignment and provide inputs on issues through the Chief of HRO to Mission management.
- Produce notes to the files and other reports as necessary.
- Maintain contacts with other components of the Mission and the UN Kosovo team, international partners and government authorities on human rights, coordination and policy matters;
- Monitor actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN organizations, government and non-governmental organizations within assigned area of responsibility;
- Define work plan for area assigned in accordance with established terms of reference.
Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
- Other Mission components, UN Kosovo team, international organizations, government authorities and civil society.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level:
Bachelor degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
- Master’s degree in Human Rights, Political Science, International Law, or related fields.
- A Bachelor's degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience (three years) may be accepted in lieu of Master's degree.
Required experience:
36 Months
Experience remark:
- At least three years of progressively responsible professional experience in Human Rights, Political Affairs or International Law.
- Experience in field or peacekeeping operations is highly desirable.
Language skills:
- English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
