The Human Rights Education Programme Advisor reports to the Head, Curriculum, Quality Learning and Student Assessment Unit.

Responsibilities Supports the implementation and monitoring of policies and strategies and substantively supports the development, planning and reporting for the Human Rights, Conflict Resolution, and Tolerance (HRCRT) Education Programme, projects, and any relevant technical instructions, ensuring alignment with the relevant Agency-wide strategies and policies, as well as support the Agency’s wider efforts to strengthen a culture of peace in UNRWA schools.

Provides technical support to education staff across the Agency, including to the Strategic Support Units in the Fields, in the area of HRCRT and related areas, such as Peace Education, Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainable Development, and is able to present this Programme to a range of audiences (donors, partners, conferences) as appropriate; works to integrate protection and gender standards and Humanitarian Principles into the HRCRT Programme’s work; ensures the collection and reporting of HRCRT related qualitative and quantitative data in line with the performance indicators utilizing the Agency-wide relevant resources and tools, including the Quality Assurance Framework; ensuring accurateness and timeliness; supports the analysis and interpretation of performance data for the HRCRT Programme.

Identifies areas for, and supports the management of research / studies, as required, for the improvement and development of the HRCRT programme as well as such research / studies relevant to Peace Education, Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainable Development; supports the development, implementation, and reporting of periodic projects relevant to HRCRT; collects and disseminates good practices and lessons learned Agency-wide regarding HRCRT.

Substantively supports the development and execution of capacity-building strategies to promote and enhance a culture of human rights and of peace; develops appropriate capacity-building materials (strategic guidelines and audio-visual materials for teaching staff) and implements capacity-building activities, when needed; writes workshop reports and progress reports both in Arabic and English.

Supports establishing and further strengthening UNRWA Student Parliaments, including school-, Area- and Field- level Parliaments as well as the Agency-wide Students Parliament on an annual basis; ensures timely implementation, analysis of relevant data, assessment, and dissemination of good practices regarding Students Parliament initiatives aiming at maximizing and improving their impact.

As assigned, supports the Head of the Unit and the Chief Teaching and Learning Division in:

- Communicating the HRCRT Programme’s planning, key outputs, and achievements;

- The development of advocacy strategies and related materials to promote and enhance a culture of human rights; ensure timely implementation and analysis of advocacy activities;

- Constructively coordinating common HRCRT Programme activities and initiatives including sharing of good practices and experiences with counterparts in the Host authorities, UN Agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and educational institutions;

- Creating collaborative, innovative and results-based teamwork; - Provision of support/coaching to staff in the Unit;/Division.

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in social sciences, political science or a relevant area, with strong background in human rights, tolerance, and conflict resolution.

Work Experience At least seven years of progressively responsible and relevant experience in management at different levels, in an educational environment Of which at least 3 years of work experience in coordinating complex programmes involving multiple partners and locations or in project management (Required).

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in social sciences, political science or a relevant area, with strong background in human rights, tolerance, and conflict resolution (Required).

Background in Media Production is preferable (Desirable).

Special Notice Duration of Contract: 3 years including 1 year probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need.

This job opening is open to internal and external candidates. Only candidates residing in Amman, and within commuting distance of the duty station with authorization to work in the duty station at the time of application are eligible to apply. The Human Rights Education Programme Advisor may be required to travel frequently in the Agency‘s area of operations.
