Human Right Specialist
Contract

Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.
Description of task
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Regional Representative of OHCHR or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Human Right Specialist will:
- Contribute to organize seminars, training and lessons learned at regional and national level with stakeholders Human Rights related issues;
- Take part in the implementation of human rights projects related to countries covered by the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights – East Africa Regional Office of (EARO);
- Maintain good working relations between EARO and national partners working on human rights issues, especially CSOs, national human rights institutions and UN agencies.
- Assist EARO in strengthening its communications outreach and development of a communication strategy;
- Contribute to EARO’s work with UN and CSO partners ensure a rights-based approach in the planning and implementation of country-based initiatives/projects and that EARO’s activities is communicated across different social media platforms;
- Contribute to reporting obligations and liaise with Regional Office and the HQ on communication related issues;
- Perform other duties as required and assigned by the Regional Representative.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level:
Master degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
- Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a Law, Political Science, International Relations, or other disciplines related to human rights;
Required experience:
36 Months
Experience remark:
- At least 3 years of professional work experience in human rights, international humanitarian law and legal matters.
- Experience working with NGOs, INGOs or other international organisations is an added value
Language skills:
- English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
