UNICEF Malawi Country Programme (2019-2023) is aligned with the Government of Malawi’s Growth and Development Strategy (MDGS III) and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The programme supports the Government of Malawi to meet its commitment to respect, protect and fulfil children’s rights in line with international conventions and standards. The country programme is guided by the principles of children’s rights, equity, gender equality, inclusion and resilience, and supports evidence-based, integrative and innovative programming. The vision is that ‘all girls and boys in Malawi, especially the most disadvantaged and deprived, realize their rights’. How can you make a difference?

The Malawi Country Office offers an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for you to join our dynamic Human Resources (HR) team where you will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of a broad range of HR administrative, procedural and operational support services for all categories of staff, while ensuring accurate and timely delivery of such assistance in compliance with UNICEF HR rules and regulations. In your role as HR Associate, you will be under the close guidance and supervision of the Human Resources Specialist and play a pivot role in ensuring highly responsive HR services in the areas under your responsibility.

Education:

  • A completed secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to HR work

Experience

  • A minimum of six years of relevant professional work experience is required in responsible HR and administrative related work
  • Experience working within the UN system is a definite asset
  • Background and/or familiarity with emergency is considered as an asset

    Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of HR principles, rules, regulations and procedures within the UN is a strong asset
  • Sound computer literacy and the ability to effectively use standard office software tools as well as good knowledge and skill in using HR systems
  • Ability to extract and format data and to solve operational problems
  • Solid report writing skills
  • Ability to organize own work, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Being a self-starter, taking initiative and quick learning skills

Interpersonal and communication

  • Takes responsibility to respond to internal and external service needs promptly and proactively; takes initiative to ensure that deadlines, rules and regulations are met. Uses own discretion to address unforeseen situations.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of confidentiality, initiative and good judgment.

    Language:

  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written
