Position background

UNOPS AUMCO is hiring for the position of Human Resources Intern. Under the direct supervision of the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Intern will deliver support in the area of recruitment, and will be involved in both operational and strategic work of the department. The Human Resources Intern will be entrusted with projects that s/he will be able to manage independently and will get exposure to global HR operations in a UN organization.

The Human Resources Intern will work under the guidance of the Human Resources Manager to support in providing high-quality and consistent delivery of effective HR services (recruitment, contract and performance management of talent) to the office, providing support to HR data analytics, ensuring full compliance with UN rules and regulations, UNOPS policies and procedures and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in HR management. The Human Resources Intern also works in close collaboration with all HR team members to support their work and ensure consistent service delivery

Functional Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, who provides general guidance and remote supervision, the HR Intern is responsible for the following:

Support to HR Data Analytics

  • Provide support in the collation, verification, and analysis of various HR key performance indicator data.
  • Maintain and improve quality of data for AUMCO HR dashboard.
  • Assist learning and development initiatives in AUMCO.
  • Conduct research and provide support in the development of various HR tools to be used within and outside the team

Support to Talent Acquisition and Administration - Assist in reviewing the current recruitment processes and make recommendations to streamline processes where needed. - Assist in recruitment processes ensuring best practices are used for effective and efficient talent acquisition in line with UNOPS policy. - Support the completion of recruitment processes including offers and rejections, and updating recruitment on-line information systems in line with UNOPS policy. - Undertake reference checking, elements of longlisting, and administration of testing and scheduling of interviews; fee calculation, minutes of general-service recruitments. - Finalize selection and other process approvals. - Inform and advise UNOPS personnel, consultants, partners and project personnel on routine aspects and elements of their conditions of service and entitlements according to their contract modality, expediting actions to facilitate their efficient, timely, and client-focused onboarding. - Research precedents and present recommendations to the supervisor, taking into account institutionalized exceptions. Undertake research on a range of HR related issues and assist in the preparation of notes/reports. - Maintain monitoring systems, advising the supervisor on the status of pending requests and approaching deadlines. - Answer questions and follow-up with personnel and management to ensure completion of absences requests, performance management cycle, and other HR processes etc. in electronic information systems.

Support to AUMCO HR initiatives , focusing on achievement

  • Research on various HR topics (talent attraction/outreach, best practices in recruitment, outreach strategies, personnel development, benefits etc.).
  • Provide support in improving existing HR processes.
  • Contribute to the learning and development workstream and take follow-up actions in various areas.

Knowledge building and knowledge sharing and contribution to product/process efficiency

  • Support the identification and documentation of best practices and lessons learnt, including coordination and organization wide implementation of knowledge sharing and documentation methodologies.
  • Contribute to knowledge management projects.
  • Provide suggestions for process improvements.
  • Support process efficiency initiatives

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education - Candidates must be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed (within 3 years prior to the application date of the internship) a Bachelor/Master’s/Ph.D. Degree in a relevant area in Human Resources Management, Psychology or related field. - Professional qualification proven to be equivalent to university degree shall be considered. - Completion of an Advanced University Degree in the relevant areas is a strong asset

Experience - At least one year of experience in the field of human resources management in a reputable organization is preferred. - Experience in the usage of computers, database management, and Google Suite/Workspace is an asset. - Experience in designing HR tools is an asset.

Language - Fluency in English is required.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
