This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

The UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) addresses gender equality and women’s empowerment challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, including deeply embedded discriminatory social norms and practices that perpetuate inequalities based on gender and other intersectional identities (e.g. ethnicity, class, region, age, disability, migratory status, and sexual orientation and gender identity, among others). The Regional Office works across the following areas: Governance and Inter-governmental support (including on Gender Statistics); Women’s Economic Empowerment (including Migration, Ending Violence Against Women; Women, Peace and Security; Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Action. Covering 42 countries within Asia and the Pacific, it exercises its triple mandate and functions i.e. Normative, Coordination and high-quality programming at a regional level and in support of UN Women’s offices and UN Country Teams in 24 countries across the region. The UN Women Asia Pacific Regional Office also oversees and manages programming in programme presences.

This I-UNV will report to the Regional HR Business Partner for Asia and the Pacific, and provide technical leadership in learning and development for the Region.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Regional HR Business Partner or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:

  1. Serve as the Secretariat for the ROAP Learning Committee
  2. Develop and conduct ROAP Learning Need Analysis;
  3. Develop and implement a ROAP Learning and Development (L&D) strategy and workplan
  4. Develop and coordinate the various L&D programmes, in coordination with HQ and the various technical teams;
  5. Develop and maintain the various L&D platforms (e.g. Job Swap, etc)
  6. Monitor the ROAP learning budget;
  7. Provide advice and support to country offices on L&D matters;
  8. Serve as onboarding focal point to systematize the AP Regional orientation programme
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Results/expected outputs

• As an active UN Women ROAP team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UN Women and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: o A regional learning and development strategy is developed. o A regional learning and development plan is developed and implemented. o Learning budget is delivered and results are evaluated. o Ultimately, the L&D culture is strengthened in ROAP and staff members are provided with L&D opportunities.

• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

HR, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences or related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in human resources. • Experience in learning and development is required. • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and experience in handling of web-based management systems.

As one of Southeast Asia's most popular tourist destination, Bangkok is famous for its bustling markets and delicious street food, and there is never a dull moment to be had in Bangkok. Its traditional architecture and culture is also an important part of the city, with the bustling, boat-filled Chao Phraya River feeding a large network of canals, the impressive Grand Palace, as well as a number of beautiful sacred temples and monuments within the city. Bangkok is a safe city to live in as a foreigner. It also has a high level of medical care, which is often attractive to retirees looking for a cheaper place to retire and families who are looking for a bit of an adventure. With regards to accommodation, there is a wide variety of options for expats, from free-standing family homes typically found in the suburban residential areas to serviced accommodation in luxury condominiums or high-rise apartments.
