This is a UNV International Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Youth contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Chief of Human Resources Management Section, the UN Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist in design of communication materials.
  • Support the office of the Chief, Human Resources Management Section, in monitoring the work of the Section, including tracking tasks, action points and projects implementation of the global projects;
  • Support in preparation of reports and development of innovative approaches in displaying data.
  • Help monitor a set of human resources metrics, including performance management compliance, recruitment time, gender and geographical representation, absenteeism and others;
  • Support the team in the preparation of reports;

  • Monitor and supervise the implementation of internal communications plan, ensuring that each unit plans and implements effective internal communication;

  • Help maintain HR social media accounts, i.e. LinkedIn and Twitter, Support ad hoc online and social media outreach activities;
  • Perform system administration tasks, including data uploads, data cleanse and work-flow design;
  • Ensures integrity of data held on HRIS and advise colleagues of actions needed to maintain data accuracy;
  • Undertake appropriate project works to support the activities of the Section;

  • Establish and develop excellent communications with clients, team members and HR management team and peer group;

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business or public administration, information management, information technology or other related fields.

Computer skills: Advanced computers skills; excellent skill in data analytics tools is highly desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Required experience:

Experience remark:

  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in human resources management, or quantitative data analysis, or monitoring and evaluation or related area.

    Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

    Experience in the areas of HR metrics or social media outreach is desirable.

Learning Expectations

Learning and development are a central part of the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment and take place before, during and after his or her assignment in the field. Ideally, offering diverse opportunities for learning and development aim to strengthen the volunteer’s skills and competences, improve the quality of the assignment and keep the volunteer’s motivation high.

Learning elements for the UN Youth Volunteer include the development of:

  • Professional skills: including specific competencies and reflection on assignment-related abilities; and on-the-job skills such as time management, problem solving, team building; and career preparedness such as interview skills, CV preparation, job searching.
  • Inter-personal skills: including communication and listening skills; multi-cultural awareness and cultural competency; and conflict and stress management.
  • Volunteering-related skills: including leadership; civic responsibility; and engagement and active participation.

Beyond the learning opportunities provided by UNV, the host agency will support knowledge and capacity development in the technical areas that are relevant to the UN Youth Volunteer’s assignment. The host agency will provide, at its expense, UN Youth Volunteers with equal opportunity to participate in training courses and workshops offered to its personnel.

This assignment is funded by the Government of the Russian Federation, therefore only Russian nationals are eligible to apply.

This is a UN Youth Volunteer assignment and eligible candidates must be below 29 years of age throughout the assignment.

Selection process

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment, via competency-based interviews held via skype or telephone.

Selected candidates will be invited to an assignment preparation training.
