Purpose of Activity/Assignment

The Global Child Protection Area of Responsibility is seeking an individual consultant to provide support to the management of programmatic initiatives related to the implementation of the Global CP AoR 2022-2024 workplan, in order to support coordination of child protection in humanitarian action at country-level.

Scope of Work

Under the supervision of the Global CP AoR Deputy Coordinator, the individual consultant will support the management of existing and establishment of new programmatic initiatives and partnerships. She/he will also support resource mobilization efforts, particularly within the private sector, for child protection in humanitarian action. This will include programmatic support to the implementation of initiatives in specific contexts as identified by the Global CP AoR thematic and Help Desk focal points and development/adaptation of guidance and tools to support resource mobilization for the initiatives. The individual consultant will also support event management. The assignment is homebased with travel to attend global meetings. In the event of travel to attend global meetings, the consultant will be responsible for travel arrangements and must ensure they are made in line with UNICEF policy on entitlements for consultant travel. Travel costs, including costs for accommodation, meals and incidentals shall be in accordance with the daily subsistence allowance (DSA) rates promulgated by the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC).

Consultant's Work Place and Official Travel

The assignment will be home-based.

As part of this assignment, there will be travel to Geneva in March 2024. Travel costs will be reimbursed per UNICEF travel policy.

Travel Clause

  • All UNICEF rules and regulations related to travel of Consultants apply.
  • All travels shall be undertaken only upon the prior written approval by UNICEF.
  • The consultant must be fit to travel, be in a possession of the valid UN BSAFE certificate, obligatory inoculation(s) and have a valid own travel/medical insurance and an immunization/vaccination card.

Estimated Cost of the Consultancy & Payment Schedule

Payment will be made on submission of an invoice and satisfactory completion of the above-mentioned deliverables. Please indicate a professional fee (in USD) based on 128 working days to undertake this assignment.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required

  • Master's degree in Development Studies, International relations, Programme Management or related fields
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional work experience, national and/or international work, in programme management, resource mobilization or related fields.
  • Familiarity with results-based approach to programming.
  • Project and/or programme management skills.
  • Solid skills in Office programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint required.
  • Fluency in English required. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, correctly prioritize competing needs, demonstrate initiative and produce concrete results.
  • Hands-on and problem-solving attitude and keen attention to detail.
  • High integrity and personal commitment to humanitarian values.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
  • Previous international experience in humanitarian programme management and resource mobilization is an asset.
  • Knowledge of UNICEF policies and procedures related to programme management and partnerships is a strong asset.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment.
