How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance of the ROSA Regional Adviser for Social Policy, and the RTfT Project’s Senior adviser, develop the text and visuals of chapter 2 of the Report. Edit evidence from draft background papers and other inputs secured for the series into a coherent and concise chapter 2 Report. Provide additional inputs as necessary, draft texts; incorporate feedback from ROSA and UNICEF’s South Asia Country Offices (COs). Support the design and dissemination of the report as well as the launch of the report as necessary. Under the guidance of the ROSA Regional Adviser for Social Policy, and the RTfT Project’s Senior adviser, develop the text and visuals of chapter 2 of the Report. Provide additional inputs as necessary, draft texts; incorporate feedback from ROSA and UNICEF’s South Asia Country Offices (COs). Support the design and dissemination of the report as well as the launch of the report as necessary.

1. Key Assignments/Tasks:

    1. Research and teamwork on evidence
    • Conduct desk review of relevant materials for gaining familiarity with the context of the Report and to assist filling-in gaps in evidence
    • Liaise with the teams preparing the background papers for the RTfT series and provide feedback on usefulness of the evidence as well as the clarity and coherence of the drafts’ findings
    • Ensure that the Reports’ conceptual framework and Reference Group’s vision-setting is presented clearly and in line with the second chapter
    • Participate in team discussions aimed at sharpening the Reports’ overall narrative and the main conclusions.
    • Draft a max 2,000 words Memorandum of the Reference Group inaugural meeting
    1. Drafting, compiling figures/infographics
    • Research and draft “Chapter 2: Vulnerability and Resilience” (8000 words) of the 2021 “Responding Today for Tomorrow” Regional Report, showing the initial conditions and evidence on child impact and on the sources of vulnerability or strength as well as how gaps and weakness in data hinder policy response
    • Edit inputs to the chapter from internal and external contributors into a coherent 8,000 words text and align with chapter 3 to ensure clear conclusions/calls to action.
    • Ensure that all data used in the chapter has been substantiated by the Project team.
    • Ensure that politically sensitive issues are presented with tact using non-confrontational language and carefully chosen wording.
    • Develop and/or embed visuals and captions.
    • Share drafts with Report stakeholders, incorporate/respond to feedback.
    • Finalize and sharpen the report content and presentation.
    1. Report designing
    • Provide support and quality control of report PDF layout, design, incorporation of infographics, photos and headlines.
    • Obtain approval from ROSA, COs and DOC as required.
    1. Report dissemination
    • Support dissemination plan including media engagement plan.
    • Develop media packs (pitch, infographics, PowerPoint presentation, press release, key messages, media Q&A, electronic briefing package and others).
    • Cooperate with the ROSA social media specialist to develop a social media calendar, content dissemination plan and social media packs.
    • Support with report launch and media briefings
    1. Miscellaneous support related to the report
  1. Support ROSA Communications Section to conduct additional internal and external briefings on the report.

  2. Other support as need.

UNICEF ROSA holds copyrights for all the parts of the report. The documents (including raw materials, etc.) may not be reproduced or published without written permission from UNICEF.

Timeline/Workplan: Actual dates of consultancy may change and must be finalized in advance in consultation with the supervisor.

1. Key Deliverables (for consultants only)

  1. Final Report in PDF.
  2. Final report-related media content.
  3. Final infographics.
  4. All background information’s including interviews and research documents.
  5. Final report dissemination plan and all associated collaterals.
  6. All additional report-related materials developed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

    1. Education:
    • University degree in journalism, communication, international relations, political or social sciences, human rights, or comparable academic qualifications

    B) Work Experience:

      • At least 10 years of progressively advanced experience in strategic communications, and report writing.

    C) Competencies:

      • At least 10 years of progressively advanced experience in strategic communications, research and report writing.
    • Experience of using analytical tools to inform strategic analysis, including work with statistical tables, figures and use quantitative and qualitative evidence in rigorous manner.
    • Demonstrated familiarity with the work of UNICEF and/or international development, humanitarian, and child rights issues.
    • Experience writing for development organizations will be an asset.
    • Proven skills in conceptualizing and developing communication and advocacy strategies and developing actions plans for implementation.
    • Proven ability to think critically and seek out, synthesize and interpret large amounts of information.
    • Ability to work with incomplete information and diverse views and opinions.
    • Expertise in using MS Office software and carrying out research and data analysis.
    • Familiarity with the South Asia region – as well as UNICEF in the region – will be an asset.
    • Excellent knowledge of English is required - strong communication skills (written and oral) in English are a necessity.
    • Ability to deliver timely and high-quality products under tight deadlines.
    • Be able to work independently as well as a good team player.
    • Skilled in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.

    D) Language Proficiency:

    Excellent command over written and verbal English language is a must.

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
