Purpose of Activity/Assignment

The purpose of this consultancy is to strengthen the capacity of nutrition cluster coordination mechanisms before, during and after emergencies, through the provision of various capacity strengthening initiatives from the development and maintenance of eLearning modules through to global level coordination training of trainers.

Scope of work

The Capacity Strengthening consultant, with the support of the GNC Coordination Team, ensures the implementation of the GNC CT capacity strengthening framework at global, regional and country levels, in complementarity to the work of the technical arm of the GNC. Specifically, the consultant will play a critical role in strengthening coordination capacity at a global level, as well as at a country level. This will be achieved through:

  1. Implementation of the Mentoring Program evaluation recommendations
  2. Revise GNC Capacity Strengthening strategic framework and ensure implementation
  3. Strengthen regional and country-level coordination and training capacities, using participatory, blended-learning and reflexive training techniques
  4. Update the GNC Nutrition Cluster Coordination and Information Management Toolkit
  5. Maintenance and creation of new modules on GNC Learn
  6. Support wider capacity strengthening initiatives extending beyond the GNC

Consultant’s Work Place and Official Travel

The Consultant will be home-based.

As part of this assignment, two (2) international travels within 2-3 hour radius of Geneva, Switzerland are foreseen. The consultant will arrange her/his travel as and when they take place, and related costs will be reimbursed per UNICEF travel policy.

Travel Clause

  • All UNICEF rules and regulations related to travel of Consultants apply.
  • All travels shall be undertaken only upon the prior written approval by UNICEF.
  • The consultant must be fit to travel, be in a possession of the valid UN BSAFE certificate, obligatory inoculation(s) and have a valid own travel/medical insurance and an immunization/vaccination card.

Estimated Cost of the Consultancy & Payment Schedule

Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of an invoice and satisfactory completion of the above-mentioned deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

Please propose a professional fee (in USD) based on 192 working days to undertake this assignment. Please do not include travel fees as this will be reimbursed as and when they take place.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, humanitarian assistance and development or another nutrition-related science.
  • 9 years of relevant work experience combined with a first University degree may be considered in lieu of the master’s degree.
  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in nutrition in emergencies programming, nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management.
  • Proven experience of nutrition in emergencies responses in a range of settings including sudden onset natural disasters and conflict setting; leading coordination in such a setting would be considered an asset.
  • Proven experience in capacity strengthening considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English and French is required. Knowledge of other UN languages (Russian, Spanish, Arabic) is considered as an asset.
