UNICEF has been working in Cameroon since 1975 to allow women and children to fully realize their rights to development without restriction, as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. UNICEF provides financial and technical support to Cameroon across seven areas to fully realize the rights of women and children. These areas include Health, HIV/AIDS, Water-sanitation-Hygiene, nutrition, education, child protection, and social inclusion. UNICEF focuses mainly on children and the most vulnerable and excluded families. Cameroon’s 2020 population is estimated at 26,545,863 people according to UN data. The population is young and generates strong socioeconomic demand. In rural areas, limited access to basic social services and the effects of climate change led to household impoverishment and severe child deprivations. The task is immense but not insurmountable; it requires the energy of all stakeholders in Cameroon and outside of Cameroon: also, women, men, youth and children, government, technical and financial partners, donors, civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and communities. Everyone is invited to take part in the struggle to meet the challenges that lie ahead. It is together that we will act for Cameroon, a country that summarizes the challenges and hopes of Africa.

How can you make a difference?

Under the Technical supervision of the HIV/AIDS Specialist, the HIV/AIDS Officer (AGYW) has as its objective to support the central, Regional, and District levels of the region in improving the combination of HIV prevention, PTME, HIV care, and treatment among adolescent boys, girls, and young men/women.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

He/she will perform the following tasks:

• Support the review and update of guidelines, tools, and data collection tools of the combination of HIV prevention.
• Provide technical support to the development of the new e-MTCT operational plan.
• Provide technical support to the development of the new pediatric and adolescent HIV care and treatment acceleration Plan aligned to the 2024-2030 National HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan.
• Support PTME situation analysis for PTME, pediatric, and adolescent HIV care and treatment in the selected priority districts and regions.
• Provide technical support to the development of the district and regional HIV/AIDS response micro plans integrated into the district and regional annual plans.
• Provide technical support to the development of Integrated multisector adolescent and youth-friendly services for HIV/STI, SRMNIA, Menstrual Hygiene, and Maternal health, including nutrition, GBV, and mental health for AGYW and ABYM
• Strengthen the capacity of district and regional stakeholders in PTME, pediatric and adolescent HIV care and treatment data collection, analysis, and feedback, and use for decision-making
• Promote Digital campaigns

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have.

EDUCATION

• A university degree (bachelor’s Degree) in Public Health, HIV programming, care and treatment, or any other related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in the areas of global health, HIV and /or development, laboratory diagnostics, project management, or related areas.
• Experience managing projects and reporting to donors and a demonstrable track record in country-level support is essential. Experience in HIV programs and policy matters in sub-Saharan Africa.
• Experience working with adolescents in the HIV/AIDS response, Experience working with UNICEF and other UN agencies is an asset
• Relevant experience with UNICEF or another UN system agency or organization is considered an asset.

LANGUAGES

• Good knowledge (written and spoken) of French and English

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments are also subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
