Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, with duty station Bor. Bor is classified in the "E" category and as a non-family duty station. The incumbent will report to the Unit/Section Chief or the Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Heating, Ventilation and A/C Technician will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

Operations: - Install, service, maintain and repair, in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation codes, air-conditioning and refrigeration installations. - Diagnose technical faults and carry-out remedy for malfunctioning or defective air-conditioning and refrigeration installations. - Operate a wide variety of tools and power equipment including saws, drills, common workshop machinery, voltage testers, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, welding/soldering equipment and other tools and equipment. - Perform diagnostics and preventive maintenance of air-conditioning and refrigeration installations. - Perform technical or other assessments of air-conditioning and refrigeration installations and prepare technical or other reports. - Apply and ensure adherence to safety program related to the safe operations of air conditioning and refrigeration installations and equipment of the building and maintenance trade. - Conducting in-house training to tradesmen and artisans on the imaging technical skills in the new installation of specialized equipment, fault finding and remedy. - Review and recommend for approval work orders and assign day to day repair and maintenance tasks to tradesmen and technicians being supervised. - Inspect and report on construction project work and maintenance work carried out either by contractors or tradesmen and staff under supervision and ensure proper utilization of available resources. - Read and interpret specifications and technical drawings, schedules, manuals for installations and upgrade repair. - Resolve problems; inspect quality of work and work performance.

Administration: - Advise on requirements for ordering equipment, spare parts, materials and supplies for air-conditioning and related works. - Assist in preparation of bills of quantities and costing for air-conditioning and related projects. Resolve problems; inspect quality of work and work performance by inhouse team or external contractors. - Assist in technically evaluating bids and proposals for air-conditioning or related projects. - Follow up on correction of defects in material related to air-conditioning and related works. - Maintain records relating to work orders projects and general correspondences. - Report on air-conditioning or related project work and maintenance work carried out by tradesmen, vendors and contractors and ensure proper utilization of available resources. - Provide inputs periodically for assessment performance levels of assigned local and international staff. - Alert the Chief of Unit/Section of unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or likely to occur.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or the Chief of Section/Unit.

    Education High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    Job - Specific Qualification Certifiable proof of license to practice on domestic, commercial and HVAC installations in accordance with the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), UK codes or equivalent is desirable

    Technical and vocational certificate in a trade specific to the post such as: air-conditioning, refrigeration, heating systems, generator, power supply, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, etc. is required.

    Technical training in HVAC installations from a recognized Technical/Trade School is required.

    Work Experience At least six (06) years of progressively responsible experience in commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration installations is required.

    Experience working with the latest editions of the IEE wiring regulations is desirable.

    Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.

    Languages French and English are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
