Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. The Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH) provides expert healthcare management and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) services to all UN Secretariat entities (Field missions, Offices Away from Headquarters and Economic Commissions), the New York based agencies funds and programs, as well as providing strategic leadership of whole-of-system medical issues through the UN Medical Directors Network. The Clinical Governance Section is responsible for development and implementation of the Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety Framework, risk and performance management including adverse events reports, root cause analysis, clinical audits and performance benchmarking, patient satisfaction surveys, oversight of clinics operation and PCC/TCC liaison. This internship is located in the Clinical Governance team, DHMOSH (Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health), Office of Support Operations (OSO), Department of Operational Support (DOS). The Intern reports to the Chief of the Unit. The intern will support the team though identification of gaps between the United Nations Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety standards and the electronic medical record in use. Tasks will include: - Reviewing United Nations Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety standards - Understanding current state of UN’s electronic medical records system, EarthMed. - Comparing best practice to current state of Earthmed and adherence to standards - Identifying enhancements to EarthMed to align with the standards (for example by adding templates, discreet fields to capture data points, format of entry for clinicians, etc), referencing the United Nations Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety standards. - Establishing SOPs for data entry, integrating the use of EarthMed, into the United Nations Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety standards - Determining level of compliance with standards after SOPs are implemented.
Qualifications/special skills
The basic education required is HS Diploma. The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of health care delivery. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
