How can you make a difference?

A challenging and exciting opportunity has arisen within UNICEF Mozambique's Maputo Country Office for a passionate and committed Health Specialist (Health Systems Strengthening), P-3 level, Temporary Appointment for 364 days (Open to non-Mozambican nationals).

Reporting to the Health Manager (P4) and in collaboration with other internal contributors to Health Systems Strengthening, the Health Specialist (Health Systems Strengthening) will work closely with the Planning Department of MISAU to better integrate and support the advancement of the health development partner coordination mechanism with key MISAU Directorates, with specific support to the Planning Directorate. Additionally, the Health Specialist (HSS) will support the Ministry of Health in coordination with UN Agencies, NGOs and other partners on the development of policies, approaches, and best practices for sustained operationalisation of Primary Health Care through evidence-based planning according to need and local priority.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES and DUTIES & TASKS

  1. Support the advancement of the Health Systems Strengthening agenda with Ministry of Health, partners and stakeholders.
  2. Support UNICEF’s roles in the coordination and governance of the health sector.
  3. Support the advancement, finalisation and implementation of district and provincial planning processes and tools on Health Systems Strengthening.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (master’s or higher) in one of the following fields is required: public health, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, social sciences or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience at international or national level in Health programmes with a focus on primary health care and health systems support, including strong experience in planning, coordinating, monitoring, documenting and reporting on issues related to strengthening the wider health partner coordination system and strengthening of the health system.
  • Familiarity with relevant tools and frameworks for analysis of thematic health system strengthening areas
  • High-level capacity for sensitive liaison with partners
  • Programming experience in Mozambique context
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese required. Fluency of another UN language will be an asset.
