Overview of the programme

The Ministry of Health and Population is designing interventions to scale up health promotion, behavioral change communication for tobacco, alcohol, diet and physical activity promotion. Nepal has adopted focused strategies for MPOWER for tobacco and added SAFER interventions for alcohol in 2022.The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated health risk factors due to physical restriction of communities due to lock down, increase in stress related to the pandemic. MOHP, Nepal will accelerate health promotion as a strategy to restore health promotion in communities and build back better within the context of COVID-19 pandemic. ‘Selfcare rehab booklet’ for post COVID-19 condition has been developed by NHEICC and CSD and recently released with the technical support of WHO.

The WHO will provide technical support to the NHEICC, MOHP under SSA contract support with one human resource to support health promotion for NCD risk factors and improving self-care among COVID-19 conditions.

Description of Duties:

Under the overall guidance of the WHO Representative and the direct supervision of the Team Lead (NCD and Mental Health), the incumbent will perform the following specific tasks till December 2022:

  • Adapt selfcare materials for lifestyle adaptation with NCDs and onwards advocacy and dissemination at province and local levels in support of the post-COVID-19 condition management protocol.
  • Support efforts on some of the key elements of the MPOWER including monitoring, roll out tobacco cessation, arrange/coordinate meetings for parliamentarian workshop, law amendment workshops among others, support institutional networking with a mix of federal and local level work.
  • Support preparatory work for SAFER interventions related to drink driving, under-age alcohol sales, and develop counter measures for illegal advertising of alcohol
  • Arrange meeting of stakeholders on physical activity promotion and development of healthy diet promotion in communities.
  • Perform other additional duties as assigned by the supervisors including duty travel as per the program requirements

Qualification****:

Education:

Essential: Master’s in health promotion or equivalent degree

Desirable: Master of Public Health with major in health promotion

Experience:

Essential: At least 5 years of demonstrated skills in designing health behavior change communications in NCD risk factors

Desirable: Research knowledge and practice in health behavioral change

Functional Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to develop health communication and health collate evidence and synthesize research and practice information on health promotion and behavioral change interventions
  • Ability to multitask and coordinate multiple work streams at the same time
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, tact, discretion and diplomacy.
  • Ability to effectively work with government, development partners and collaborating agencies.

Other Skills (eg IT):

  • Proficiency in the use of modern office software packages such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.) and standard office equipment.
  • Knowledge of online communication best practices.

REMUNERATION:

Monthly Salary: (Net of tax) NPR 196,102.00. at single rate (taxable as per Nepal Government laws and appointment will be through Special Services Agreement (SSA)

Grade: SSA Level 8

Duty Station: NHEICC, MOHP, Kathmandu
