This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

In Syrian refugees’ camps, UNICEF provides a wide range of essential basic services through its comprehensive programs to support children to; survive and thrive, educate, have access to clean water and sanitation, and be protected to reach their full potential. The successful candidate will support to monitor and supervise the health and nutrition services provided to children and women of childbearing age (15-49 years) within the camp settings. Activities and interventions include Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Pediatric clinic and ward, Immunization services, and health supplies contribution in kind, that all are provided to refugees in camps through fixed and outreach modalities in collaboration with stakeholders and key partners as Ministry of Health (MOH) and NGO’s

National UN Youth Volunteers in Jordan are entitled for:

  • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) at the amount of JOD 854.8;
  • Annual and learning leaves;

Under the technical guidance of the Nutrition Specialist and Health Officer and Supervision of the Humanitarian affairs officer, the UN Volunteer will: • Support in supervising and monitoring clinics and community outreach activities; • Ensure that Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) cases are managed and given the needed treatment; • Provide technical support to implementing partners and community based volunteers; • Submit monthly, and periodic reports about camps activities and situation reports (SitRep); • Monitor stock supplied such as therapeutic milk formula, supplementary feeding, MUAC tapes, Scales, baby kits…etc.; • Follow up on the monthly and quarterly reports from implementing partners and camps’ stakeholders, upload all needed data on the system i.e., Activity Info or SitRep Reporting Tool; • Coordinate with UNHCR and Ministry of Health (MOH) at the field level and provide them with needed data on a monthly basis; • Support in monitoring the pediatric services referral system efficiency and the main Azraq camp hospital including clinics and pediatric ward activities. Support monitoring supplies (syringes, sharp containers, visibility, filter paper…etc. and vaccine availability; • Conduct regular field visits to UNICEF supported clinics 7 clinics in Za'atari, 4 in Azraq, and 1 in Emirati Jordanian Camp (EJC), and making sure that all clinics are open, vaccines are available and properly used and effectively managed; • Coordinate with UNHCR to reach vaccines defaulters through Community Health Volunteers (CHVs.); • Prepare the school health plan at the camps level and include all related partners and the referrals sheets based on School Health Program findings; • Coordinate with Ministry of Health (MOH) , Ministry of Education (MOE), and Syrian Refugees Affairs Directorate (SRAD) for any required camp approvals for health-related activities; • Coordinate health-related referrals that came from UNICEF sections based on the referrals matrix which shared on monthly bases by UNHCR; • Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with health sector partners at the camp’s level; • Contribute to communicable diseases preparedness and response; • Attend the following periodic meetings but not limited to, monthly internal camps meeting, monthly health working group meeting, and monthly nutrition sub-working group.

at the national and/or international level in health and nutrition program, or other relevant public health programmes. experience in working with refugees is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization. and; • Preferably with UN agencies / INGOs; • In public health/community health; • Humanitarian / Syrian Refugees Context; • Excellent oral and written skills; good drafting, formulation, and reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; Sound security awareness and volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship).

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
