Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:

With oversight from the Health Promotion coordinator, the Intern will develop health promotion content to be used by newly arrived refugees. The Intern will create educational content that increases knowledge around navigating healthcare in the U.S. The Intern will have a great amount of independence and autonomy to utilize their skills in content development and graphic design throughout the project.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop educational videos and content that address and explain common health conditions, specialties, and healthcare access in multiple languages.

• Compile content created into web format that can be easily understood and navigated.

• Attend organizational meetings.

• Support the overall functioning of Health Programs, projects, and initiatives.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. The Content Creation Intern will learn about barriers that affect refugee populations and create videos/content to serve as tools and resources to support them in navigating and overcoming barriers.

2. The Content Creation Intern will support graphic design efforts to create health promotion resources that can be easily understood by individuals who are illiterate and Limited English speakers.

3. The Content Creation Intern will learn how to communicate and collaborate with staff/interpreters to achieve goals.

4. The Content Creation Intern will work closely with the rest of the health team to support health team needs.

Qualifications REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be currently enrolled in a graduate/undergraduate program or have graduated less than 6 months ago.

• Motivated and creative individual with a strong interest in content creation.

• Experience or knowledge with website and app development a plus.

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English.

• Experience working cross culturally and with limited English speakers a plus.

• Self-starter with ability to problem-solve and take initiative to work on projects independently.

• Strong intercultural communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from other cultural backgrounds.

• Understanding and ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding client information.

• Driver’s license, personal vehicle, auto insurance, and clean driving record or other means of reliable transportation.

COMMITMENT:

Start Date: September 11th, 2023

• Schedule: Minimum of 10 hours per week, up to 35 hours per week

• Duration: 12 weeks
