The Position:

The Head, Procurement Quality Assurance (QA) and Technical Team is responsible for providing strategic direction on quality assurance of Reproductive Health (RH) Products and Humanitarian Supplies.

You will provide leadership in the area of Quality Assurance of contraceptives, medical devices and pharmaceuticals and components of dignity kits. You will also manage the WHO/UNFPA Prequalification Programme for condoms and IntraUterine Devices (IUDs).

You will report directly to the Chief of the Supply Chain Management Unit (SCMU).

UNFPA occupies a unique position in the Reproductive Health Commodity ecosystem as a critical player in supply chain management, a leading public procurer of reproductive health commodities, a trusted partner to national governments, and one of the few organizations with the scale and partnerships necessary to build accountability for last mile delivery.

The Supply Chain Management Unit (SCMU), which was established in 2022, ensures that UNFPA is able to effectively and efficiently support the delivery of life-saving reproductive health products and other programme supplies to the end user when and where they are needed. To do so, it provides enabling services to Regional Offices and Country Offices and ensures coordination, end-to-end visibility and accountability on all supply-chain-management related activities, in particular for programme supplies, across all UNFPA Programmes.

Job Purpose:

You will play a vital role in ensuring adequate support is efficiently provided to the various SCMU clusters involved in procurement activities to achieve enhanced program delivery and satisfaction of the various clients of the unit.

You will have strategic oversight of the various activities, with responsibility for developing and implementing relevant strategies as well as leading others.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Advanced university degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Medicine, Engineering, Public Health, Biology. Advanced university degree in a related field or recognized national certification or equivalent professional experience essential.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Seven years of experience in an official medicines or medical devices control laboratory and/or at least five years’ experience of quality related regulatory work either in the pharmaceutical industry or in a regulatory agency.
  • Demonstrated experience in team management in complex high-pressure environments.
  • Experience building and managing strategic partnerships with UN Agencies, partners and donors on quality assurance issues for health products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control of contraceptives, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and components of dignity kits and Quality Control Laboratories.
  • Demonstrated understanding of WHO Prequalification Program for condoms and IntraUterine Devices (IUDs).
  • Good general knowledge and understanding of IT systems and dashboards.

Languages:

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
