Job Title Head Of Social Media Type & Level NOB UNIT/DIVISION: RBC Communication, Advocacy, and Marketing DUTY STATION (City, Country): Cairo, Egypt REPORT TO: Senior Regional Communications Officer DURATION OF CONTRACT: 12 months, 1 October 2023

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Digital media engagement is pivotal to WFP’s response to global shifts in communications, fundraising advocacy, and development. The use of digital media helps position WFP in the MENA region as a knowledge leader in food security and as an agency with an edge in delivering in emergencies as well as expanding outreach and broadening engagement around food security. Social media is a tool for awareness, brand building, fundraising, and generating support.

The purpose of this assignment is to strengthen and increase the unit’s capacity by managing a team of social media experts and talent, supporting and delivering a range of social media-related activities, developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks, and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities in the region.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/DELIVERABLES:

  1. Own the development of a strategic social media plan and its associated budget across campaigns and channels.
  2. Build, lead, and manage a team of talented professionals.
  3. Lead the development and direct the implementation of a wide range of content forms, including video, text, still imagery, animation, live action, and other content forms that best utilize the technology available on any given social media/digital platform.
  4. Work collaboratively with WFP country offices in the region to develop and execute creative ideas, plans, and strategies.
  5. Write, edit, and produce social media content in English and Arabic language for the regional social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, positioning content for clarity and impact.
  6. Generate multimedia content including, text, photos, and infographics for use across a range of integrated online platforms, supporting regional communication activities and ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
  7. Monitor social media, regularly provide insights on regional audiences, and support the implementation of informed cross-platform social media strategy.
  8. Keep abreast of new trends in social media tools, trends, and applications, testing new ideas and platforms and measuring results.
  9. Develop partnerships and productive working relationships with WFP celebrities, talent, influencers other related stakeholders to build/leverage networking opportunities and integrate them into strategic planning.
  10. Provide inspirational and creative thought leadership on ways to reach and gain the attention of target audiences.
  11. Plan and manage campaign executions, on time, on budget, and to scope.
  12. Manage external agencies and publishing partners as necessary for that which we cannot do internally.
  13. Other as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Education:

Advanced University degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in progressively responsible functions producing, editing, and disseminating multimedia content for social media audiences on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit social media posts in English and Arabic to a standard high enough for immediate publication without an editor.
  • In-depth understanding of the social media landscape, including trends in new tools and platforms.
  • Experience using advanced tools for social media publishing, monitoring and marketing.
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Canva or other tools for creating and editing visual assets for social media use.

Languages: Fluency (level C) in Arabic and English language.
