What we are looking for

NRC Syria is looking for a motivated, dynamic and experienced Head of Programme to join the mission. The role holder will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of holistic high-quality programmes through our main core competencies in Education, Capacity Building, Livelihood and Food security as well as Shelter and WASH. This role is pivotal in creating cohesive strategies that integrate various aspects of program delivery, ensuring that all initiatives meet the highest standards of excellence and effectiveness.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and guide the development and adaptation of the Programme (Core Competencies) strategies.
  • Ensure the quality implementation of the Programme strategy and report on progress.
  • Manage performance, support and develop the Programme Unit.
  • Ensure that appropriate support is extended to the Area Office programme teams.
  • Support the Country Director in developing and implementing the fundraising strategy.
  • Represent NRC in relevant coordination fora and with donors.
  • Lead the development of quality proposals, reporting, and other documents for donors’ engagement.
  • Support the management of Whole-of-Syria grants.
  • Facilitate the development of organisational learning from programme implementation.
  • Collaborate with the Advocacy and Policy Advisor to ensure continuous exchange of information and full understanding of programme priorities.
  • Foster strategic partnerships with stakeholders to increase principled, humanitarian access.
  • Facilitate exchanges with other NRC Country Offices in the region to build programme synergies.

What You Will Bring

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience from a senior management position in a humanitarian/ recovery context.
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Core competency expertise.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of the context in Syria.
  • Knowledge of Arabic is an added value.
  • Experience with NRC’s range of Core Competencies.

What We Offer

  • Contract period: 12 months with possibility of renewal
  • Duty station: Damascus, Syria
  • Travel: 30% to areas of operation
  • Senior Grade 11 in NRC’s Salary Scale. NRC offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
