You have:

  • Advanced university degree in Population Studies, Demography, Statistics, Public Health, or related Social Science field.
  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience in developmental work, with at least 4 years at international level.
  • Excellent organization management skills, and leadership attention to detail, precision and accuracy as applicable.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide oversight and strategic guidance for country programme design to ensure alignment to national priorities/capacities.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead and manage teams to achieve demonstrable results, including ensuring accountability for results.
  • Excellent internal and external communication skills to foster partnerships at a high level of representation and to maintain political partnerships in the assigned country.
  • Strong interest in development work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund and commitment to the principles and Charter of the United Nations.
  • Ability to identify the relative merits of different policy arguments in the broad or specific thematic area, applying principles and reasoned personal view in a logical and coherent way including the presentation of reasoned choice between alternative opinions and solutions.
  • Ability to conceptualize and to integrate knowledge with broader strategic, policy and operational objectives.
  • Ability to organize information using appropriate mode of presentation and style and to communicate effectively, illustrating relevance of information to the intended audience.
  • Ability to produce high quality practical advisory reports and knowledge products in English.
  • Ability to promote knowledge management and a learning environment.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Field experience is a requirement.

Contract

This is a P-4 contract. This kind of contract is known as Professional and Director staff. It is normally internationally recruited only. It's a staff contract. It usually requires 7 years of experience, depending on education.

Salary

The salary for this job should be between 110,983 USD and 143,090 USD.

Background:

In a highly complex operating environment, the Head of Office will be responsible for establishing and promoting partnerships and strategic alliances with counterparts in government, UN system, multi/bilateral agencies, civil society, private-sector and other stakeholders in the country to develop, implement, monitor and report on programmes that respond to national priorities and efforts to advance the ICPD Programme of Action and achievement of the SDGs.

S/he will be expected to analyze relevant political, social and economic trends in Botswana and to provide substantive inputs to programme design, project formulation and evaluation, joint programming endeavours and integrate the ICPD Agenda within national development frameworks.

S/he will substantively contribute to the effective management of UNFPA programmes in Botswana in particular in ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights, including maternal health, family planning, youth development, gender and social norm change, population and development across humanitarian, development and peace contexts. In addition, S/he will provide oversight and accountability for monitoring results achieved during programme implementation and guiding the appropriate application to strengthen systems and procedures.

The Position:

The Head of Office leads the country team in effective implementation of the Government-UNFPA country programme in response to national priorities and towards achieving sustainable development for women, adolescents and youth. Reporting to the non-resident Country Director, who provides oversight and strategic guidance, the Head of Office ensures delivery of transformative results in line with realizing the ICPD PoA and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Africa Agenda 2063.

Education:
