Org. Setting and Reporting The Head, Curriculum, Quality Learning and Student Assessment (CQLSA) Unit directly reports to the Chief of the Teaching and Learning Division.

Responsibilities Provides leadership for the Curriculum, Quality Learning and Student Assessment (CQLSA) Unit and sets the strategic and operational direction for the Unit’s activities, plans, priorities, and workflows; manages the effective development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines as they relate to CQLSA, ensuring alignment with the Agency’s Medium Term Strategy; manages the budget envelope for the Unit to ensure efficient utilization of available resources; manages and supports staff to meet set objectivess;

Coordinates the team’s effort and supports the work of reviewing of UNRWA Host countries’ curricula based on Curriculum Framework and the Rapid Review criteria (Neutrality, Gender and Age Appropriateness);

Manages the data collection and reporting of the Unit’s activities, with regard specifically to the review of textbooks, the analysis and accessible presentation of the findings for a range of audiences in this regard;

Supports the Director of Education and the Chief of the Division in building and strengthening constructive work relationships with counterparts in the Host authorities, UN Agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and educational institutions, including sharing and disseminating good practices and innovative approaches across the Agency; advises on approaches to students’ assessment and curriculum enrichment according to the context of each Field to best reflect developing trends; helps determine research focus in relation to CQLSA;

Is responsible for the strategic planning and reporting of CQLSA Unit related activities and the communication of the CQLSA Unit’s key outputs, and achievements with the support of the Chief Teaching and Learning Division; Ensures effective professional relationships with the Fields, working with the Heads of other Units within the Department; provides appropriate and relevant support, including to the Field Education Senior Management Team and Strategic Support Units with regard to the implementation and monitoring of the Agency-wide Curriculum Framework and strengthening formative assessment strategies;

Supports the Chief of the Teaching and Learning Division, and the office of the Director of Education in the implementation of the periodic Monitoring of Learning Assessment (MLA).

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in a relevant area (Education, Curriculum, Teaching Learning Methodologies, or related areas);

Education qualification (Qualified teacher status).

Work Experience At least eight years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in planning, management and development of a school education programme and/or in professional educational role at a senior level;

A minimum of four years teaching experience at different educational levels.

Languages Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice Type of Contract and duration: Fixed-term appointment of 3 years including 1 year probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need.

The Head, Curriculum, Quality Learning and Student Assessment (CQLSA) Unit may be required to travel frequently in the Agency‘s area of operations.
