Graphic Designer Consultant - For Local and International Applicants

Location: Amman, Jordan

Application Deadline : 06 September 2023

Type of Contract : Individual Consultant

Language Required: Fluency in English is a Must

Duration: One Month

Hiring Office: UNFPA Arab States Regional office - Amman HUB

Purpose of consultancy: UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health (SRH) agency. UNFPA’s three strategic goals (zero unmet need for family planning; zero preventable maternal deaths; and zero gender-based violence and harmful practices) are aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Purpose: UNFPA is establishing a risk reduction and community engagement exercise to reach both health care workers and Syrians at the community level to address the issues of early marriage and forced puberty. A presentation for coordination forums, a UNFPA statement, and key messages have so far been developed. Using the key messages for the community level, and based on the literacy rates in the community, illustrations are needed to further disseminate the messaging, to be used on posters, flyers, and potentially t-shirts.

You will report to the Head of the UNFPA Regional Humanitarian Hub for Syria and the Arab States

Scope of work:

Under the supervision of the Head of the UNFPA Regional Humanitarian Hub for Syria and the Arab States, in coordination with a technical review group including the SRH coordinators from the WOS hubs, and in collaboration with the Regional Humanitarian Communications Specialist, the graphics illustrator will be responsible to:

Complete the following 7 information, education, and communication illustrations in A2 standard size. Each illustration should be based on the key message provided.

  1. Target: Entire community Theme: Health Using hormonal medications without a valid medical reason and physician supervision poses serious risks to the health and growth of young girls.
  2. Target: Entire community Theme: Health Persuading or forcing girls to take hormonal medication is a harmful practice and significantly increases the risks to their health and well-being, even when done under the false assumption that this would prepare them for marriage and motherhood.
  3. Target: Entire community Theme: Health Even when starting a family is the goal, giving hormones to a young girl to promote pregnancy is dangerous and will likely not work.. If pregnancy occurs in a young girl, the risk of serious illness and long term health problems increase. Children’s bodies are simply not ready for pregnancy.
  4. Target: Entire community Theme: GBV prevention Forcing girls to take hormones puts pressure on them to engage in sexual relations before they are ready. Research shows that this puts them more at risk of various forms of violence, especially domestic violence and exploitation.
  5. Target: Entire community Theme: GBV prevention There is never a good reason for child marriage, which is destructive to the health and well-being of girls. We must act together to protect our children from harm, even during the worst circumstances.
  6. Target: Adolescent girls Theme: GBV response If you are feeling threatened or coerced into early pregnancy or taking hormonal medications, you can seek confidential support from GBV specialists or trusted health care providers. You have the right to ask for help and you do not have to manage this on your own.
  7. Target: Adolescent girls Theme: GBV response You have the right to make critical decisions about your own body, including when and how to be sexually active or to get pregnant. If you need support, consult a trusted health care provider or GBV specialist. Illustrations are expected to be impactful and culturally relevant, in addition to being easily understandable by the target audience.
